BELIEFS

The Bible We believe the Bible is God’s word, spoken to all people. It was written by men but inspired by the Spirit of God and is, therefore, infallible, inerrant, and relevant to us today (II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20-21; Proverbs 30:5; Romans 16:25-26). Trinity We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Although each person has distinct functions, each share in the same authority and power. (I John 5:7; Genesis 1:26; Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19; Luke 1:35; Isaiah 9:6; Hebrews 3:7-11). Father We believe in God the Father, creator of the heaven, earth, and all things visible and invisible. He is all powerful, all knowing, ever present, altogether good, and—above all—holy. He is a relational father who loves his children and is faithful to fulfill his promises. (Exodus 3:14; Numbers 23:19; Leviticus 11:44-45; 19:2; Psalm 11:4-6; Malachi 3:6; John 3:16; 4:24; 5:26; 14:1; Acts 17:28; Romans 3:3-4) Son We believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God, the second person of the trinity. We believe he was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died for the forgiveness of sin, and physically rose on the third day. We believe he will physically return a second time to make all things right and restore creation to its original, intended state. (John 1:1,14, 20:28; I Timothy 3:16; Isaiah 9:6; Philippians 2:5-6; I Timothy 2:5). Holy Spirit We believe in the Holy Spirit, who is God. He convicts the world of sin and reveals and glorifies Jesus Christ. He endows the church and empowers it’s individual believers with spiritual gifts to accomplish his purposes and makes us more like Jesus. (Joel 2:28-29; Matthew 3:11; Mark 16:17; Acts 1:5,2:1-4, 17, 38-39, 8:14-17, 10:38, 44-47, 11:15-17, 19:1-6, Hebrews 2:4; Romans 1:11,12:4-8; Ephesians 4:16; II Timothy 1:5-16, 4:14; I Corinthians 12:1-31, 14:1-40; I Peter 4:10). Man We believe that all people were created in the image of God and that humanity is the crown jewel of his creation. We were created to have fellowship with God, but our relationship was broken through our sinful disobedience. As a result, we are incapable of regaining a right relationship through our own efforts (Genesis 1:26-30; 2:7, 18-22; 3; Psalms 8:3-6; 32:1-5; 51:5; Isaiah 6:5; Jeremiah 17:5; Acts 17:26-31; Romans 1:19-32; 3:10-18, 23; 5:6; 6:6; 7:14-25; 1 Corinthians 1:21-31; 15:19, 21-22; Ephesians 2; Colossians 1:21-22; 3:9-11). Salvation We believe that Jesus Christ’s shed blood on the cross is the sole basis of the forgiveness of sin. God freely provides salvation to those who place their trust in the death and resurrection of Jesus as payment for sin, and by no other name is a person saved. (Isaiah 1:18; 53:5-6; 55:7; Matthew 1:21; 27:22-66, 28:1-6; Luke 1:68-69; 2:28-32; John 1:12; 3:16, 36; 5:24; Acts 2:21; 4:12; 16:30-31; Romans 1:16-18; 3:23-25; 5:8-10; 6; 1 Corinthians 1:18; 2 Corinthians 5:17-20; Galatians 2:20; 3:13; Ephesians 2:8-10; Philippians 2:12-13; Hebrews 9:24-28; Revelation 3:20) Regeneration We believe regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely necessary for salvation. (John 6:44, 65; Matthew 19:28; Titus 3:5). The Church We believe that the church is the body of Christ and the hope of the world. Jesus Christ is the head, and each member of the body serves a unique purpose. Members of the body are those who have placed their trust in Jesus Christ and his finished work on the cross. The purpose of the church is to glorify God and make him known to the world. (Ephesians 1:22, 2:19-22; Hebrews 12:23; John 17:11, 20-23). Christian Life We believe that all true Christians live for Christ and no longer for themselves. Through obedience to the word of God, prayer, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the believer is daily transformed into the image of Christ. (2 Cor. 3:16-18, 5:15-18; Romans 12:1-2; Col. 3:5-10) Eternity Heaven is the eternal dwelling place for all believers in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Those who do not believe will be judged by God and will be eternally separated from Him throughout eternity with Satan and his fallen angels. (Matthew 5:3, 12, 20, 6:20, 19:21, 25:34; John 17:24; II Corinthians 5:1; Hebrews 11:16; I Peter 1:4, Matthew 25:41; Mark 9:43-48; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 14:9-11, 20:12-15, 21:8)
