Our Mission
St. Luke's Anglican Church is a traditional community of orthodox Anglican Catholic Christians, just west of Richmond, Va. We're located on Route 6, commonly known as Patterson Avenue. Every Sunday, we gather for the Liturgy of Holy Mass, where we receive the Holy Mystery of Our Lord's Real Presence: Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity, both in the Cup and Bread. If you are a Baptized Christian, we invite you to join us in making your weekly Holy Communion with Our Lord. Not Baptized? Come then, and join with us in studying His Word, and in learning more of Our Lord's ways and teaching. The Christian journey is life-long, and not always easy, but the Reward is Great! "Come and see", won't you?

So, you're probably thinking, right away, "Yeah, right...this'll be real unbiased". Not so fast, my friend!! Between my first and second visits, it was close to a year and a half. At first, I thought, "well, I'll keep checking around.."...

So, you're probably thinking "right...this'll be a really unbiased review..."
Not so fast, my friend! Yes, I'm a "cradle" Anglican-Catholic; traditional, conservative, and orthodox in orientation. But, there's something about this...

Before you decide that St. Luke Anglican Church must be completely off the beaten path, hold on!! "Where is that?", you ask? Think Patterson Ave. (Rt. 6), about 3 miles west of Rt. 288, just past where Rt. 6 becomes a 2 lane highway. More detail can be found at our website: StLukesRichmond.org

Funerals
Solemnization of Holy Matrimony (Weddings), with or without Nuptial Mass, is available in the traditional rite for Baptized Christians, without additions or subtractions, according to that which is found in the Anglican Missal and St. Andrew's Service Book. Prior to the wedding, those who seek the church's blessing, must go through a several week course of instruction and self-examination (possibly including confession/abosolution) as prescribed by Father. As we are not licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia, no license will be signed. This must be accomplished by a properly licensed government authority.
Likewise with Funerals, with or without a Requiem Mass, the traditional rite, without additions or subtractions, will be followed, again according to the sources mentioned above.
BELIEFS
What we profess every Sunday at Holy Mass (and, what one should include in one's daily private prayers), is summarized in the words of what's commonly called the Nicene Creed, as generally accepted by the Church since around 451AD. Of the many translations extant today, the translation we use is that of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. Note that the Creed (or "Symbol of Faith) begins with "I believe" in the original language, rather than "we believe". Yes, we stand, and make our profession of faith together, yet ultimately, this profession must be that of each individual...one is individually accountable to the Creator at the last day. We believe that Christ's salvific action on the cross, overcoming death by death, brings us, once having come up out of the waters of Baptism, into new life in Him. Hence, we are "saved". Yet, this is not a "once and done" proposition, but rather, as one reads in the Epistles of Blessed St. Paul, a process of "working out our salvation with fear and trembling" throughout our entire lives. So then, through our daily prayers, weekly and seasonal fasting, and daily reading of the Scriptures and writings of the early Church Fathers, we strive to conform ourselves, our souls and bodies, more and more, to the nature and likeness of our Creator, in whose image we are created. And, at the last day, Lord have mercy upon us all, we hope to be saved.
