A Season of Faith
The other day I found myself sitting in the quiet peace of the sanctuary. I began to think of how the sanctuary used to look, and how it now seems even more inviting. I then realized all of the changes that were made to this space. There was new paint, new carpet, new projector, and seasonal banners. Pretty significant changes to a familiar place, that did not take anything from what was familiar, but improved it greatly.
I guess I began to think of how we do not look like the Bellamy Church that began 2013. We have taken on some significant changes this past year. Changes that did not take anything away from the familiar, but have greatly improved who we are as a community serving Christ.
We launched a praise band this year. The band called “In His Presence” was formally introduced at Pentecost. Our worship now has a wonderful blend of familiar hymns, and newer praise music. Our worship is still familiar and speaks to who we are. But it has changed and I think speaks to a more diverse worship style.
As we entered the fall we began to realize the need for newer communities to begin. In the last few months the idea of having two young adult classes t urned into having three. Not to be in competition with each other. Quite the opposite. The communities would seek to interact with each other and intentionally reach out to the senior adult ministry to strengthen our community of faith. And so as I write this article a Single Parent’s and College Age Young Adult class are being formed. Once again, we are growing and changing. The familiar still exists, yet there is a vision of a greater need and a faithful response is being undertaken.
Our presence on the internet needed a real change. The familiar needed to be overhauled. And a church member stepped up with the passion and skills to give us a presence on the internet that is new and exciting. With current information, highlights of upcoming events, and links to ministries; this new website is what was needed to stay abreast with a rapidly evolving culture of technology.
Lastly, as we look back in January of 2013 we did not have a scout troop. We do now. In November we welcomed Cub Scout Pack 175 to Bellamy. A big change for us. Yet at their first meeting, it felt like they had been here for a while. It is a good fit, and the Pack is as eager to work with us, and we are eager to be a part of the scouting life.
We’ve come a long way in 2013, and I think the best is still to come. The Lord has seen us overcome challenges and obstacles with faith and with joy. My prayer is that you will receive God’s richest blessings during this season of Advent and Christmas. I am blessed to be able to journey with Bellamy.
In faith we will do much to glorify God in 2014.
