Baptist Churches

Baptist

Baptists churches generally agree on two of their fundamental doctrines on baptism - that baptism should be performed only for professing Christian believers (e.g., Believer's baptism, as opposed to infant baptism), and that baptism must be done by immersion (as opposed to sprinkling).  Other tenets of Baptist churches include soul competency (liberty), salvation through faith alone, scripture alone as the rule of faith and practice, and the autonomy of the local congregation.

Baptist churches are Christian Protestant churches that are typically independently governed but come together in associations such as the American Baptist Association, the National Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention which are all congregational in form.  In general, the American Baptist Association is more liberal, the National Baptist more moderate and the Southern Baptist Convention tends to be more conservative.  See all denominations and assocations of churches categorized as Baptist on list of Christian Denominations.
