BELIEFS
Jesus asked his disciples, "Who do you say that I am?" When Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God," Jesus affirmed Peter but cautioned him, as well, teaching that the most important commandment is to love God and neighbor. We, too, are cautious when it comes to defining what people should believe about Jesus. Still, we follow him, learn from him, and find ourselves challenged and sent by him to love and serve our neighbor. Faith is more about love and trust than it is affirming a long checklist of beliefs. That being said, some among us have very traditional beliefs found in the historic creeds. Others find different language meaningful as they put their faith into word and action. The bottom line for us is that Jesus invites us to follow him in loving God and neighbor.
