Our Mission

Our mission is to cultivate, celebrate and participate in the good news of God’s love and justice in Everett. As we’ve dreamed about how this mission gets fleshed out in community on the ground in Everett, four core values have been unshakeable: 1) Life in the way of Jesus: We want to live a sacramental lifestyle together in the way of Jesus. This would include weekly gatherings for intergenerational creative worship culminating in communion. We will read and struggle with the Gospels in community - asking “What does the life of Jesus look like today and in our neighborhood?” And as we engage in these practices, we hope to become a community that shares their lives, resources, and needs openly with one another. 2) Radical inclusivity: Starting at the communion table and extending throughout all of life, we - like God - will welcome all people. We will be a community that creates and holds inclusive space (relational, communal, and physical) for all people to find a home within the Church. 3) Holistic justice: We are committed to justice, from our local community to the larger world. We desire to be a community that explores the intersections of local and global justice and how our daily lives increase justice (or injustice as the case may be). We commit to engaging issues of poverty and homelessness in our community in a way that brings dignity and life to all involved. And we will ground our work toward justice in God’s vision for the world as expressed throughout scripture. (eg the minute attention given to daily practices to increase shalom in Deuteronomy, or in the Sermon on the Mount, or James’ care of orphans and widows, or Paul’s subversive letter to Philemon about slavery). 4) Neighborhood presence: We will be a community that loves Everett - that works, worships, lives and plays in Everett. We want to work across socioeconomic, racial, political, and denominational lines to seek the good of our city. We hope that all of this coalesces in a community anchored by a weekly gathering for worship that includes sharing a meal, as a rehearsal of our daily lives that manifest a recognizable and collaborative Gospel presence in Everett.

About Everett Christian Church

Everett Christian Church (a tentative name) is a new community with the Northwest Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). We're brand new and just beginning to gather together a community to listen to our neighbors/neighborhood and to what God is up to in and around us. We are dreaming and discerning together what a new Christian community in Everett looks like. A few bullet points about who/how we want to be in our neighborhood are: 1) Living in the way of Jesus. 2) Radical inclusivity: We will be a community that creates and holds inclusive space (relational, communal, and physical) for all people to find a home within the Church. People of all races, genders, sexualities, and socioeconomic statuses will find an open and affirming home with us. 3) Holistic justice: We desire to be a community that explores the intersections of local and global justice and how our daily lives increase justice. 4) Neighborhood presence: We will be a community that loves Everett - that works, worships, lives and plays in Everett. We want to work across socioeconomic, racial, political, and denominational lines to seek the good of our city.
