BELIEFS
Our belief is:
Article 1, The Scriptures
We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired, and is a perfect treasure of heavenly instruction; and that it has God for its Author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error for its matter; that it reveals the principles by which God will judge us; and therefore, is and shall remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions shall be tried.
Article 2, God
We believe that there is one, and only one living and true God, an infinite, intelligent Spirit, whose name is Jehovah, the Maker, and supreme Ruler of Heaven and Earth; inexpressibly glorious in holiness, and worthy of all possible honor, confidence, and love; that in unity of the God head there are three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; equal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption.
Article 3, Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten of the Virgin Mary; that He is true God and true Man, and is the only and sufficient Mediator between God and man, through whom every soul may have direct access to God.
Article 4, The Holy Spirit
We believe in the personality of the Holy Spirit and that His ministry is to reveal Jesus Christ to men in the regeneration and sanctification of their souls, and in the understanding and application of Christian truth.
Article 5, Man
We believe that man was created in holiness, under the law of his Maker; but by voluntary transgression fell from holy and happy state; in consequence of which all mankind are now sinners, not by constraint but by choice; being by nature utterly void of that holiness required by the law of God, positively inclined to evil; and therefore, under just condemnation to eternal ruin, without defense or excuse.
Article 6, Salvation
We believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly of grace through the mediatorial offices of the Son of God; who by appointment of the Father freely took upon Him our nature, yet without sin, honored the divine law by His personal obedience, and by His death made full atonement for our sins; that having risen from the dead, He is now enthroned in Heaven; and uniting in His wonderful person the tenderest sympathies with divine perfections, He is every way qualified to be a suitable, a compassionate, and an all sufficient Savior.
We believe that the blessings of salvation are made free to all by the Gospel; that it is the immediate duty of all to accept them by a cordial, penitent, and obedient faith; and that nothing prevents the salvation of the greatest sinner on earth, but his own inherent depravity and voluntary rejection of the Gospel; which rejection involves him in an aggravated condemnation.
Article 7, Justification
We believe that the great Gospel blessing which Jesus Christ secures to such as believe in Him is justification; that justification is God’s gracious and full acquittal of sinners from all sin; that it is bestowed, not in consideration of any works of righteousness which we have done, but solely through faith in the Redeemer’s blood; by virtue of which faith in His perfect righteousness is freely imputed to us of God; that it brings us into a state of most blessed peace and favor with God, and secures every other blessing needful for time and eternity.
Article 8, Regeneration
We believe that in order to be saved, sinners must be regenerated, or born again; that regeneration consists in giving a holy disposition to the mind; that it is effected in a manner above our comprehension by the power of the Holy Spirit, in connection with divine truth, so as to secure our voluntary obedience to the Gospel; and that its proper evidence appears in the holy fruits of repentance, and newness of life.
Article 9, Repentance and Faith
We believe that repentance and faith are sacred duties and also inseparable graces, wrought in our souls by the regenerating Spirit of God; whereby being deeply convinced of our guilt, danger, and helplessness, and of the way of salvation by Jesus Christ, we turn to God with unfeigned contrition, confession, and supplication for mercy; at the same time heartily receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as our Prophet, Priest, and King; and relying upon Him alone as the only all-sufficient Savior and Lord.
Article 10, Stewardship
We believe that God, the Creator, and Owner of all things and persons, has entrusted to the Christian his life, time, talents, influence, money, goods, and all things whatsoever he possesses; that as stewards of these possessions he is to administer them under the will of God for the purposes of Jesus Christ; that in definite expression of this stewardship he is to contribute systematically and proportionately of his/her means to the support of his/her church and of the missionary and benevolent enterprises there of.
Article 11, The Security of the Believer
We believe that those whom God hath accepted in the Beloved, and sanctified by His Spirit, will never totally nor finally fall away from the state of grace, but shall certainly persevere to the end; and though they may fall, through neglect and temptation, into sin, whereby they grieve the Holy Spirit, impair their graces and comforts, bring reproach on the church, and temporal judgments on themselves, yet they shall be renewed again unto repentance, and be kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation.
Article 12, The Church
We believe that a church of Jesus Christ is a congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the Gospel, observing the ordinances of Jesus Christ; governed by His laws and exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His Word; that its Scriptural officers are pastors and deacons, whose qualifications are defined in the Epistles of Timothy and Titus, together with such other leaders, teachers, and workers as the church may select and as are needful in carrying out the true functions of a Gospel church.
Article 13, Baptism and the Lord's Supper
We believe that Christian Baptism is the immersion in water of a believer; in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost; to show forth in a solemn and beautiful emblem of our faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Savior, with its effect, in our death to sin and resurrection to a new life; that it is prerequisite to the privileges of a church relation; and to the Lord’s Supper, in which the members of the church by sacred use of bread and wine (unfermented), are to commemorate together the dying love of Jesus Christ, preceded always by solemn self-examination.
Article 14, The Lord’s Day
We believe that the first day of the week is the Lord’s Day, and is to be kept sacred to religious purposes, by abstaining from sinful recreation, by the devout observance of all means of grace both private and public; and by preparation for that rest that remaineth unto the people of God.
Article 15, Satan
We believe that Satan is a personal Devil, that he was created as an angelic being, that he fell and was cast out of Heaven because of his sin of pride in that he said he would ascend above the heights of the clouds and would be like the Most High; that he became the prince of this world and is called Lucifer, son of the morning; that he is the originator of sin and that under the permission of God he, through subtlety, led our first parents into transgression, thereby accomplishing their moral fall and subjecting them and their posterity to his own power; that he is the enemy of God, and the people of God, opposing God and exalting himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped; that though he now is the prince of the world, he will be bound and cast into the abyss for a thousand years, at the second coming of Jesus Christ; that after the thousand years he will be loosed for a little season and then be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where he shall be tormented forever and ever.
Article 16, Hell
We believe in a literal hell, the place of eternal punishment for the unsaved, the Devil, and all his angels.
Article 17, Heaven
We believe in a literal place called heaven where God’s immediate presence is manifested, where the Holy angels are, and where the redeemed shall ultimately be, from whence Jesus Christ descended and ascended again, where He maketh intercession for the Saints, and from whence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
Article 18, The Second Coming of Christ
We believe that when the present age is consummated, the Lord Jesus Christ will return to the earth to establish His millennial Kingdom; that it is not possible to know the date of His coming; nevertheless, every Christian should live in earnest expectation of His coming at any time; that when He comes in the air, both dead and living believers will be caught up to meet Him, receiving their resurrection bodies, and will appear before the judgment seat of Christ, to be judged not for salvation but for rewards; that the coming of Jesus Christ will also be associated with a period of judgment and great tribulation on the earth, in which the wrath of God will be poured out on unsaved men and women because of their rejection of God and His Christ; then Jesus Christ will come to earth in power and glory to reign for a thousand years.
Article 19, The Gospel
We believe that the Gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures; and that He was seen by many.
Article 20, Unity
We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in Jesus Christ, and in the autonomy of the local church; that the following cardinal principles are expressive of our faith and doctrine:
1- The Lord Jesus Christ is the only Head of the Church.
2- The Bible is a sufficient rule of faith and practice.
3- Christian character is a sufficient test of fellowship and church membership.
4- The right of private judgment and liberty of conscience is a privilege that should be accorded to
and exercised by all (In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things charity).
