Meet The Pastor

Pastor Joshua N. King, Sr.
Reverend Joshua N. King, Sr. was born in Mt. Airy, North Carolina. He is the son of the late Mr. Joshua Jasper Pickney of Lake City, South Carolina and Mrs. Alice K. Clay of Bessemer City, North Carolina. He is the third child out of seven children and a third generation preacher. His education began in the public schools of Gaston County, North Carolina. After serving in the United States Army, he continued his education at Morris College Sumter, South Carolina where he completed the Morris College Pastoral and Christian Education program. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion and Philosophy from Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. He also holds a Master of Divinity from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia. He currently serves as Trustee for the Progressive Baptist National Convention, Inc. (PNBC) and Treasurer of Area II, Vice President of the Ministers Council, and Region VII representative for the American Baptist Churches of the South (ABCOTS). Previously, he served two years as Program Committee Chair for the PNBC, under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Carroll A. Baltimore. He began his ministerial journey in June 1997 and was licensed to preach as a Baptist minister on March 5, 2000. A year later, in March 2001, Dr. Blakley N. Scott III, along with the First Nazareth Baptist Church in conjunction with the Gethsemane Association ordained him a Reverend. He has pastored three churches, Seekwell Baptist Church in Whitmire, South Carolina, Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Gadsden, South Carolina and the Historic Union Baptist Church in Hopewell, Virginia. He is currently the 8th Senior Pastor of the 152 year old prestigious Zion Baptist Church in Hampton, Virginia. His motto text for life is Isaiah 40:30-31, which reads, “Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Reverend King is married to retired (26) US Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 Kimberly I. King; they have five children Joseph, Joshua Jr., Jessica, Nygel and Darius. They also have three grandchildren Jojo, Billie Jo, and Bailey. They continue to give God the glory for all the miraculous things God has done and is doing in their lives. He strongly believes "It’s not how you start, but how you finish.” Reverend King gives all Glory and Honor to His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for every gift of ministry upon his life.
