Meet The Pastor

Rev. Gene Ayers on "Wally", the Camel
Rev. Gene E. Ayers
Welcome to Central Advent Christian Church, The Big Rock Church! Our church family is comprised of very friendly, loving folks. I grew up in this church so I have known many members all my life. My wife, Susie, and I returned to the Alleghany Highlands in 2010, as our careers were winding down and wanted to come "home". I retired from the Virginia State Police in 2015 and was retired exactly one month. I accepted the Senior Pastor position and have not looked back. It is such a joy and honor to serve our Lord and this church family. I am also the President of the Virginia Conference of Advent Christian Churches and am privileged to do so. I serve as a Hospital Chaplain at LG-Alleghany. Our denomination is small but active. Missions is a very important ministry to us as well as helping our neighbor. Our church family is comprised of 1 through 90+ year old folks. For me, I learn so much from the kids each Sunday morning during our children's sermon...you never know what is going to be said. I also love accompanying our youth on trips...it does not matter if it is to Kings Dominion, a Zoo, Trampoline park, Gingerbread Houses, or just movie night at church with a pizza party. Our youth are our future. This past year, I have ridden both an elephant and "Wally" the camel, both unexpected experiences. Their parent(s) are very involved in working with our youth. Visiting the sick, our elderly shut-ins, and nursing home residents is such an important part of my ministry. So often, when visiting, I am the one who feels uplifted. We are one of the few churches in the area that still have Sunday evening and Wednesday night services, something I feel is important because it gives attendees who may be working during one service to be able to come worship. Come visit! We would love to have you.
