Senior Pastor Tommy McDearis
Known by many as "Tommy," Dr. McDearis is a loyal husband, father, minister and friend who has served as BBC's senior pastor since 1997. Most know him for his caring and gregarious personality, as well as his passionate faith, jovial sense of humor, commitment to personal outreach and his community, and commitment to social and denominational activism. A dynamic communicator, Dr. McDearis presents positive, biblically-based messages through scriptural exposition and storytelling. In addition to his interpersonal ministry style, he also holds multiple academic degrees, including an earned doctorate in pastoral ministry and applied theology, while also receiving training in clinical pastoral counseling from Southeastern Seminary and from the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center School of Clinical Pastoral Education in Wake Forest, North Carolina. Dr. McDearis is married to his college sweetheart, Susan Harris McDearis, who has been the love of his life since 1979. Susan works as a special needs instructor for the Montgomery County School System. She and Tommy have three adult children – Brandon, Eric and Kathryn, whom they cherish and adore.
