About The Haven Community Church

The Haven is based on the idea of simplicity in Jesus Christ. Jesus said “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:25-30). We want to create an environment that is safe to do so. “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!” (Psalm 34:8) It isn’t a church that is watered down in theology. The Haven is Biblical first and foremost and Jesus Christ is the center of that theology. We believe that Christ is found in a person, not in a program. We also believe that the church is found in the people and not in the building. Therefore, four walls do not define who we are, Jesus Christ does. “Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all” (Colossians 3:11). The Haven is a simple church on a mission to love God, grow together, and change the world through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

BELIEFS

At The Haven Community Church we agree with Augustine’s statement concerning doctrine and beliefs: “In the essentials, unity; in the non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.” We are far from a church that is watered down in theology, however when it comes to unity, we focus our attention on the core beliefs that all Christians hold in common. These are the main and plain things that are taught in Scripture and are essential to the Christian faith. Other non-essential issues are important, but are issues on which we should not divide. These are what we consider the essentials: BIBLE - We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and that it is authoritative in all matters of faith, doctrine and practice. GOD - We believe in one God who exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. GOD THE FATHER - We believe in God the Father who is the creator of all things; an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, justice, wisdom, power, sovereignty and love. He concerns himself mercifully in the affairs of men and women, hears and answers prayer, and saves from sin and death all who come to him through Jesus Christ. JESUS CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD - We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the basis of His shed blood. We believe in the deity, virgin birth, substitutional death, burial, and physical resurrection of Jesus Christ; in His ascension into heaven, and His present life there for us as High Priest and Advocate. We believe that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will personally and physically return and set up His Kingdom where He will rule and reign in righteousness. THE HOLY SPIRIT – We believe in the Holy Spirit, who came forth from God to convince the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, comfort and empower those who believe in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit functions as the life of Christ in the believer. MAN - We believe that man was created in the image of God and that he fell through sin. As a consequence of his sin, he has suffered not only physical death but spiritual death, becoming dead in trespasses and sin. We also believe that this spiritual death, or total depravity of human nature, has been passed on to the entire human race, Christ Jesus alone being the exception. SALVATION - We believe that salvation is by God’s grace through faith alone in His Son Jesus Christ alone. We believe that all who, in faith, receive the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior are born again by the Holy Spirit and thus become children of God. Salvation involves redemption, regeneration, sanctification, and glorification. Salvation is by faith and not by works of the law or good deeds, however God has created the Christian to live a life of good works. THE SECOND COMING - We believe in the literal, visible, personal return of Jesus Christ to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the just to enjoy eternal fellowship with God eternally in his kingdom, and the lost to eternal separation in hell.
