Meet The Pastor
Reverend David Alan Ivie
David was born in Dallas and grew up in Forney, Texas. He was raised Baptist, attending Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas and then First Baptist Church in Forney. David received his Bachelor of Arts in English and History from Baylor University in 1991. While attending Brite Divinity School (TCU) in Fort Worth, David joined First Presbyterian Church, Fort Worth. He received his Masters of Divinity in December, 2005.
David served as Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Muscatine, Iowa for nearly 5 years. While there, David started a Pastoral Resident program. He supported the Presbytery of East Iowa, serving on the Administrative Unit for 4 years. He was also active in the Muscatine community, serving as a board member for MCSA (the local shelter) and writing a weekly column for the Muscatine Journal.
David is a second-career pastor. Previously, he was a restaurant manager at several Dallas-area Chili's. In 1999 he transferred to the Brinker International home office to be an I.T. Helpdesk Manager.
David and his wife Laura have been married since 1991. Laura is a R.N. She works at Baylor University Medical Center Dallas as a Parent Educator & Lactation Consultant. They have three children Sam (12), Sarah (9), and Sophia (4). While David, Laura, Sam & Sarah were each born at Baylor Dallas, Sophia was born at the University Hospital in Iowa City, across the street from Kinnick Stadium--home of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Their dog Chester (half Havanese, half Papillion) was born on a farm near Cedar Rapids, Iowa. David enjoys music (especially Bob Dylan), movies, college football (Big 10 & Big 12 conferences) and baseball (Chicago Cubs). He has been known to cook a fairly mean chili.
He is an INFP on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, so he values integrity and cares that others grow and learn in Christ: “so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life” (1 Timothy 6:19). He is a Nine on the Enneagram, so he is a reformer at heart with a natural drive to improve and to heal. He is committed to proclaiming the peace of Christ in personal relationships as well as being a public voice for reconciliation and forgiveness in society (Isaiah 2:1-5, Col 3:15, John 20:19-23). His favorite gospel is Luke; and a key scripture is Matthew 20:27 “And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant” (KJV). David believes that the proper mixture of pastoral care, administrative skills, and congregational leadership can help churches be vital places for both the care of souls and the transformation of the world.
