BELIEFS
Newell Christian Fellowship was founded in 1909 as the First Congregational Church of Newell. Newell Christian Fellowship was founded as a Congregationalist Church and we practice the Reformed tradition of Protestantism.
Congregationalism (also Congregationalist churches) is a Reformed (Calvinist) tradition of Protestant Christianity in which churches practice congregational government. Each congregation independently and autonomously runs its own affairs through democratic voting by the church body. These principles are enshrined in the Cambridge Platform (1648) and the Savoy Declaration (1658), Congregationalist confessions of faith.
Reformed theology emphasizes the authority of the Bible and the sovereignty of God, as well as covenant theology, a framework for understanding the Bible based on God's covenants with people. Many in the Reformed tradition affirm and follow the "doctrines of grace" also known as the "five points" of Calvinism (named for John Calvin)
