Rector Patrick Greene
Having grown up in Barrington, I am very excited be back home serving as the Rector here at Saints Matthew and Mark. While I have been a member of the Episcopal Church my whole life it wasn’t until I started attending Youth Group as a teenager that I really started to take my faith seriously. In High School I began to feel my calling to the priesthood, to a life of sharing the love and grace of God shown to us in Jesus Christ. After graduating from Barrington High School I attended URI where I graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Philosophy in 2006. I received my M.Div. from Virginia Theological Seminary in May of 2010 and was ordained as a Deacon two days later, and as a Priest that December. In 2013 I began working on a MA in Theology at Providence College, since having children this degree has been put on hold.
Having first recognized my calling to the priesthood in high school, I am incredibly thankful for my time in the Youth Group at St. John’s for helping me to discern that calling. And because of this, youth ministry holds an important place in my heart. As a teenager I attended our diocesan summer camp ECC, Happening (a weekend long diocesan retreat) and EYE (a week long triennial national youth event). Since returning to the diocese as a member of the clergy I have continued to be a part of these communities as best as I could. Up until this fall I was a part of the Leadership Team of Happening and serve as chaplain at ECC at least one week a summer.
I have also served our diocese in a number of ways apart from youth ministry. I served as the Dean of the Narragansett Deanery up until began serving at Saints Matthew and Mark, I was a member of Diocesan Council from 2011-2014, serving on the Executive Committee for my final year, was a delegate to General Convention in 2015 and have served as a member of the Standing Committee for the past two years.
I met my wife Carmen at a coffee shop in Wickford where she was working after moving back to RI after spending a handful of years in South Carolina. She served me coffee for close to half a year before I worked up the courage to ask her out. We were married on Thanksgiving Day weekend in 2012. A few months later we adopted Tucker, a border collie/treeing walker coonhound mix. In October of 2014 we welcomed our first child into our family, Jackson Norman Greene, in June of 2016 we welcomed our daughter Hazel Jane. Outside of the church I love to play ultimate frisbee, bike, read and spend time with my family and friends.
