Our Mission

Open * Inclusive * Anglican
Open At Our Lady of Walsingham Anglican Church we celebrate the traditional sacraments, with special emphasis being given to the Holy Eucharist, also called Holy Communion, the Lord’s Supper or the Mass. The breaking and reception of the bread and wine as representing the body and blood of Christ as instituted at the Last Supper. It also represents the sharing of the table with Christ. We believe the that Eucharist is a means of God bestowing his grace upon us in a direct way. Because of this we believe that all baptized Christians should be allowed to take communion without exception. For one to wish to take communion they must be under the work of the Holy Spirit (Prevenient grace) or no such desire would exist. Inclusive We believe that all the members of the human race have been created equal, in the image of God, and therefore promote inclusiveness in our church and through out our world wide communion. We also make no distinction as to race, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, social status, profession, marital status, political belief and culture of its members. We believe that all unions that are authentic and loving, between two mature human beings, should be respected and blessed in our church. Anglican Our structure, theology and form of worship, is commonly understood as a distinct Christian tradition representing a middle ground between what are perceived to be the extremes of the claims of 16th century Roman Catholicism and the Lutheran and Reformed varieties of Protestantism of that era. As such, it is often referred to as being a via media (or “middle way”) between these traditions. We use the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) which is one of the ties that bind the Anglican Free Communion together.

BELIEFS

Apostolic Faith The Church is obliged continually, and particularly in times of renewal or reformation, to return to “the faith once delivered to the saints.” Therefore, we strive to hear God’s Word as it comes to us in the Bible, and to read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest the faith given to the apostles, handed down in our scriptures and transmitted through the ages of church history. One Canon We affirm one biblical canon including forty-six books of the Old Testament, and twenty-seven books of the New Testament. The Bible is God’s Holy Word, and we are subject to its authority in all matters of faith and practice. Three Creeds We adhere to classic, orthodox Christianity as articulated in the Apostles, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds. While the Bible is God’s Word and has ultimate authority, the early creeds are essential guides for faithful biblical interpretation. Four Councils At the Councils of Nicea, Constantinople, Ephesus, and Chalcedon the biblical canon and the early creeds were established as the boundaries for orthodox Christianity. They serve as essential guides in matters of faith and practice.
