The people are friendly, hungry to learn, love Jesus and enjoy each other. It is always refreshing to be in this place. The Wednesday and Sunday small group studies are solidly bible based, easy to participate in, and the food is great too!

Orleans County Jail Ministry / Bible Study
Shelby Center Church is a place where people can engage in life-giving community built upon trust, love, and the pursuit of genuinely knowing and following Jesus.
We believe in creating a space where people who attend regularly or say I'm new can have authentic encounters with Christ, discover their gifts and use them for God's glory.
We value healthy relationships and caring well for each other by living in unity, fervent charity, and growing in maturity. This makes the gospel visible, accessible., and enjoyable.
With the goal of church simplified, Jesus magnified, and people edified we intentionally avoid the "institutional" or "denominational" feel in favor of church that is more like family and values unhurried time together in worship and God's word.
Dress is casual. A few dress up! You'll receive a warm welcome and gift for visiting without being pressured or singled out.
A typical service will last about 75- 90 minutes. We start by sharing thanks, laughter, testimonies, and prayer requests, then have a season of prayer corporately.
We sing a mix of older and newer songs with some occasional special music.
Our entire congregation, young to elderly, remain together during this time of worship.
Children are then dismissed to the children's ministry while the rest remain for the sermon. The message style is typically expository (verse by verse) and lasts about 45 minutes.
Plan to linger after the service for fellowship and meeting new people. We enjoy a bring-a-dish style meal together immediately following the service for those who wish to stay.
BELIEFS
The following summarize the core of what we believe at Shelby Center Church based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible.
Since what we believe determines how we behave, all of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.
~ Scriptures ~
We believe the Bible is the very Word of God, eternal, unchangeable, powerful, timeless, true, and preserved for us today in the English language.
Since God has chosen to communicate and hold man accountable to these words, He has providentially kept them through the ages. God is able.
~ Interpretation ~
We believe that the Scriptures interpreted in their plain natural sense progressively reveal divinely determined rules of life which define man’s responsibilities before God.
~ God ~
We believe that there is one, and only one, living and true God, an infinite, intelligent Spirit, the Maker and Supreme Ruler of heaven and earth, inexpressibly glorious in holiness, and worthy of all honor, confidence, and love;
That there is one triune God, eternally existing in the three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – each co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, co-equal in power and glory, and having the same attributes and perfections.
~ Revelation ~
God has revealed himself to us through his Son, Jesus Christ, who is God made visible, knowable, and personal and through both the holy scriptures and creation itself.
~ Mankind ~
Humans, both male and female, were created in God's image for His pleasure. The first humans, Adam and Eve, were created without sin and appointed as caretakers of the rest of God's creations on earth.
~ The Fall ~
When Adam and Eve chose not to obey God, they ceased to be what they were made to be and became distorted images of God.
This caused them to fall out of fellowship with God, pass sin and death to all mankind, and fractured all of creation ever since that time.
~ Salvation ~
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to reconcile us with God. He lived a life without sin and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our transgressions.
God raised him from the dead and now, by grace, offers as a free gift righteousness and eternal life to all who by faith repent, believe, ask, receive, and choose to follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
That is why salvation can be found in Christ alone. (You can learn more here)
~ Resurrection & Eternal State ~
Jesus Christ will soon return to receive and reward the Church then personally and visibly to judge both the living and the dead and to usher in the fullness of
God's kingdom on earth.
All people are eternal and accountable to God. Every human being will spend eternity, irrevocably, in either heaven or hell, with no intermediary state.
We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment.
~ The Church ~
The Church is the body of Christ sent into the world to make the gospel visible and accessible by both urgent proclamation and compelling community.
The church is a spiritual body, with Jesus Christ as her sole Creator and Head, that assembles locally for the purpose of worship, prayer, edification, mutual aid, discipleship, the enjoyment of the ordinances, and fellowship.
The church is a private gathering of believers who can and often does extend an invitation to others to assemble in fulfillment of the Great Commission.
The church is not a building or a business. The church is not a corporation, unincorporated association, religious or charitable organization, and is not to be defined or classified by these or other legal terms.
We believe in the autonomy of the local church free of any external authority
or control. Being a spiritual body she is obligated to follow the commands of her Lord Jesus Christ.
~ Family ~
We believe God created only two genders, a biological male and biological female, determined by Him at conception. Each gender plays a complimentary role in family, civil, and church life.
Marriage is to be comprised of one biological male and one biological female. God created the institution of marriage and family and gave it the responsibility for rearing children and ordering family life according to God's word.
~ Civil Government ~
We believe that God who has all power has ordained and delegated limited and legitimate authority to three institutions: 1) home, 2) church, and 3) state.
Every person is to strive to cooperate with these authorities, but all (including the authorities) are answerable to God, governed by, and subject to His word.
The home, the church, and the state are equal and authoritative in their respective biblically assigned spheres of responsibility under God.
We believe that civil government is of divine appointment and is to be obeyed with the exception of things opposed to the will of God, or when infringing upon these God ordained boundaries, or when violating one's conscience.
~ Our Commission ~
We believe that God has given the church a great commission to proclaim the gospel to all so that there might be great multitude from every nation, tribe, ethnic group, and language group who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
This includes invitations to church meetings and related functions.
We are to use all available means to fulfill this task ourselves, locally and abroad, and provide support to others engaged in this great work.
