Vacation Bible School Vacation Bible School (VBS) is an annual July tradition at Grace-St. Paul’s and is open to all children, ages 4 through 12, regardless of church membership/affiliation or denomination. This week-long, early-evening camp features daily Bible stories, songs, games, arts and crafts, snacks, and a ton of fun! Eucharistic Visitors Grace-St. Paul’s has a group of parishioners who are licensed as Eucharistic Visitors, whose mission is to take the Eucharist to those in the church community who may be shut in or ill. As a team, the Eucharistic Visitors visit those who have requested regular contact and Eucharist. Visits are rotated, allowing for more connective ties with more people. Sometimes the visit includes the Eucharist, other times the package is solely the gift of presence. Girl’s Friendly Society The Girl’s Friendly Society (GFS) is an international non-denominational, non-profit organization for young women between the ages of 5 and 21, regardless of race, religion or nationality. The purpose of GFS is to provide girls with a program of support that helps them grow and mature into healthy, productive adults. Through a program that focuses on worship, outreach, study and recreation, GFS helps its members develop their talents and life skills and gain the self-esteem and confidence necessary for coping in a complex adult world. Memorial Garden The Grace-St. Paul’s Memorial Garden provides a place where the ashes of parishioners and their loved ones can be interred. It is also a quiet spot for prayer and reflection in an elegant and verdant corner of the church property. Reduction of the body to ashes by cremation is an appropriate and natural process accepted and approved by the Episcopal Church. Interment in the Grace-St. Paul’s Memorial Garden offers an alternative to other burial customs. Ashes are buried directly into the soil in a biodegradable container. Loved ones, who wish, can help to place earth over the ashes. It is a place where nothing separates the return of our ashes to the earth. Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) Outreach TASK provides more than 3,000 free meals per week to people in need in the Trenton area. The Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) feeds those who are hungry in the Trenton area and offers programs to encourage self-sufficiency and improve the quality of life of its patrons. Every Sunday is TASK barrel Sunday. The TASK barrel is great way to donate food and personal items to this long established Grace-St. Paul’s ministry outreach program. The barrel is located in the Nave by the Narthex doors. Please see the pantry list for the needed items. Please remember TASK during your weekly grocery shopping with a very simple theme, One-a-week! Pick up one item during your shopping trip to put in the TASK barrel. TASK needs our help and we are answering the call! The Crisis Ministry of Mercer County Outreach The Crisis Ministry of Mercer County offers practical, innovative, caring programs that address hunger prevention, homeless prevention and workforce training. They offer heart-healthy foods and nutrition education that’s accessible to low-income families, housing stability with back rent, mortgage assistance, security deposit and utility assistance as well as preparing men and women to re-enter the workforce with refreshed skills and guided job search. Grace-St. Paul’s “Growing with GSP” supplies the Crisis Ministry’s food pantry with fresh vegetables that parishioners have tended to over the summer.
Life takes unexpected turns. In times of pain and uncertainty, Grace-St. Paul’s Church is here for you. Marital difficulties, grief and loss, health struggles, career and financial worries, and family challenges are issues we all face. A clergy person with a listening ear and prayerful heart can be a great help and provide spiritual direction in such times. Please know that all pastoral conversations are held in confidence. Let our church be a support to you as you seek God’s guidance and comfort. If you need pastoral care, please call the church office at (609) 586-6004, and ask to speak to a member of our clergy.

BELIEFS

We are Episcopalians As Episcopalians, we are followers of Jesus Christ and believe in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We strive to affirm our faith through communal worship and prayer; to resist evil and temptation, and when we fail, to ask for forgiveness and return to the Lord; to proclaim by word and deed the Good News of God in Christ; to seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbors as ourselves; to stand up for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being. The Episcopal Church is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, and traces its heritage to the beginnings of Christianity. The Episcopal Church welcomes men and women to be ordained as bishops, priests, and deacons, and its laity—that is, non-ordained persons—exercise vital leadership roles in the governance and ministry of the Church. We Search for Truth via Scripture, Tradition, and Reason While we—like all Christians—acknowledge the Bible (or the Holy Scriptures) as the Word of God, we do not interpret the Bible literally. We explore and analyze scripture in the context of history and seek to interpret God’s word in scripture for our own day. For two thousand years Christianity has amassed experiences of God and ways of following Jesus which remain critical to our understanding of our faith and the practice of our beliefs. Traditions connect us with past generations and give us a starting point for our own faith and practice in the present day. We believe that the ability to Reason is a gift from God. Reason accumulates through our experience in the material world and our growing understanding of natural laws that science with its empirical and logical methods demonstrates. Reason, as a complement to Scripture and Tradition, leads us to seek answers to our own questions of God and to grow spiritually in God’s love. We Come Together as a Faith Community We unite in worship to acknowledge the holiness of God, to hear God’s Word, to offer prayer and to celebrate God’s presence among us. The service follows an order found in our worship book called the Book of Common Prayer, two-thirds of which is scriptural. Every worship service includes the reading of Holy Scripture from the Old and New Testaments. Many of our prayers and hymns are filled with scripture. The Book of Common Prayer includes a variety of ancient and modern prayers and worship services for occasions when the whole community gathers and for individual use. The Book of Common Prayer allows everyone to participate, reminding us that each person is an important part of the worship experience, whether the service is a celebration or a solemn occasion. All baptized Christians, regardless of denomination and tradition, are welcome to receive the Eucharist at Grace-St. Paul’s. All are welcome to find a spiritual home in the Episcopal Church. We Respect Differences of Opinion and We Celebrate Human Diversity We celebrate our unity in Christ while honoring our differences, always putting the work of love before uniformity of opinion. We believe that our faith journey lasts a lifetime, and that there will be questions and doubts along the way. We welcome thoughtful questions and debate and we always try to provide a loving and accepting environment in which we all can explore and deepen our faith. We affirm that committed relationships are lifelong and monogamous. Episcopalians also recognize that there is grace after divorce and do not deny the sacraments to those who have been divorced. We assert that issues such as birth control are matters of personal informed conscience. We are young and old, male and female, gay and straight, single, married, divorced and widowed, Anglo, African American, Latino, African, Asian, executive and unemployed, student and teacher, rich and poor. We worship together, learn together, toil together occasionally, and ask questions as we move more deeply into the mystery of God. The Welcoming Congregations Statement of Affirmation “As a welcoming congregation, we are committed to inviting and to supporting all people to worship and to become part of our parish family, including those who feel excluded because of their sexual orientation or identity, and are seeking a safe, comfortable and affirming spiritual home.” The Oasis Ministry of the Diocese of New Jersey Still have questions?
