We Believe
The Bible, consisting of both Old and New Testaments, is the very word of God, divinely inspired and without error in the original manuscripts. Under the Divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the human authors of Scripture penned direct revelation from God himself.
Beliefs
The contents of this statement are intended to be a concise, yet specific summation of the doctrinal beliefs of Abounding Grace Ministries. These beliefs are based upon the truths of God which he has revealed in Scripture. It is our position that the following truths constitute biblical Christianity.
The Bible
The Bible, consisting of both Old and New Testaments, is the very word of God, divinely inspired and without error in the original manuscripts. Under the moving of the Holy Spirit, the human authors of Scripture penned direct revelation from God himself. The result was the writing of manuscripts that were breathed out by God. This God-breathed inspiration was verbal and plenary. Though the personalities and styles of the human authors are reflected in the writings, they recorded God’s authoritative word to man. Consequently, the Bible is the final authority for all matters of faith and conduct.

God
There is only one true God and he is an intelligent and personal spirit. God is the epitome of perfection; being omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. He is the one Creator, Sustainer, and Ruler of the universe. God is sovereign over all things past, present, and future. The one, true, living God has manifested himself to us as three distinct, yet equal persons: Father, Son, and Spirit. These three persons of the Godhead possess distinctive attributes, yet are without division of nature, essence, or being. The theological term for describing God’s existence is ‘Trinity’. The Trinity is of one substance and eternal purpose. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit execute separate, but harmonious functions within the counsels and purposes of God.

God the Father
God the Father is an everlasting, infinite, perfect personal being who is the sovereign and rightful ruler of all that exists. God as Father reigns with providential care over his universe, his creatures, and the flow of the stream of human history according to the purposes of his grace. In his providence, God uses all natural and spiritual means to accomplish his purposes; yet is free to move and act outside or above these means in any way consistent with his holy character. God is the spiritual Father of all who have saving faith and acts with fatherly care toward all mankind.

God the Son
Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He is the eternal Son of God who was with God from all of eternity. In his incarnation he was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He perfectly revealed and did the will of God, taking upon himself human nature with its demands and necessities and identifying himself completely with mankind, yet he was and is without sin. He offered himself as a penal substitutionary atoning sacrifice for sinners when he was physically crucified, actually died, and bodily resurrected from the grave. This sacrifice was voluntary and was accomplished by his own eternal power and according to his own eternal purpose. Upon his resurrection he appeared to his disciples in his glorified body and then ascended to heaven where he is now seated at the right hand of the Majesty on high. There he acts as the only true Mediator between God and men until he returns physically to earth in power and in glory to judge the living and the dead and thus complete his redemptive mission.

God the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is fully divine and eternally united with God the Father and Christ the Son. He is the personal Spirit of God and not a ‘thing’ or impersonal being. Under his inspiration and moving, holy men of God wrote Scripture. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment; regenerates God’s own and effectively and irresistibly calls them to Christ. He baptizes all believers into the body of Christ and indwells, sanctifies, instructs, empowers, and seals them unto the day of redemption. His presence in the Christian is the guarantee that God will bring the believer into the fullness of the stature of Christ.

The Condition of Man
Man is the creation of God. Made in God’s own image and likeness, man was originally created free of sin with an intelligent nature, volitional capabilities, and moral responsibility before God. In the beginning, man and woman were innocent before God and given the opportunity to either obey or disobey his command. By his free choice, man chose to disobey God and as a result sin entered the entire human race. Upon this fall from innocence, mans will fell into complete bondage to sin and evil. Only the grace of God can bring man into God’s holy fellowship and enable him to fulfill the creative purpose of God. The sacredness of human life is evident in that God created man in his own image, and in that Christ died for man. Therefore, every person of every race possesses dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love.

Salvation
Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior; who by his own blood obtained actual and eternal redemption for the believer. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord, and the salvation of all who truly believe is eternally secure and can never be lost. In its broadest sense, salvation includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification.
– Regeneration is a work of God’s grace whereby he makes the dead sinner alive and gives them new life. It is a change of heart wrought by the Holy Spirit through conviction of sin, to which the sinner responds in repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance and faith are inseparable experiences of grace.
– Justification is God’s gracious and full acquittal upon principles of his righteousness of all sinners who repent and believe in Christ. Justification brings the believer unto a relationship of peace and favor with God.
– Sanctification is the experience, beginning with regeneration, by which the believer is set apart for God’s purposes and is enabled to progress toward moral and spiritual maturity through the presence and power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Growth in grace should continue throughout the regenerate person’s life.
– Glorification is the culmination of salvation and is the final blessed and abiding state of the redeemed. All who have faith in Christ will be given eternal, incorruptible bodies suitable for eternity with the Master. This will occur when Christ returns and establishes the eternal state.

God’s Purpose of Grace
Election is the gracious purpose of God according to which He regenerates, justifies, sanctifies, and glorifies sinners. According to his eternal purposes and counsel, God chose some persons for salvation before the foundation of the world. This choice was for his own pleasure and glory, and was made apart from any foreseen works of faith or deeds in man. It is consistent with the free agency of man, and comprehends all the means in connection with the end. It is the glorious display of God’s sovereign goodness, and is infinitely wise, holy, and unchangeable. Salvation is operative by and through God alone, not in cooperation with man; meaning that those who are redeemed always come to saving faith as they are made willing to come not as they are willing to come of their own accord. Therefore, the entire process of salvation, including election, excludes boasting and promotes humility.

The Church
A New Testament church of the Lord Jesus Christ is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel. A local church is identified as such by observing the two ordinances of Christ, being governed by his laws, exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by his word, and seeking to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth. Each local congregation operates under the lordship of Christ. In such a congregation each member is responsible and accountable to Christ as Lord and Master. Its scriptural officers are pastors and deacons. While both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor is limited to men, as qualified by Scripture.
The New Testament also speaks of the church as the Body of Christ which includes all of the redeemed of all ages; believers from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation. This is the universal church. While a local church may consist of both true and false believers, the universal church consists only of those who have genuine saving faith.

Baptism & The Lord’s Supper
Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Savior. It is also symbolic of the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life.
The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members of the church, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming.
Both of these ordinances are significant expressions of obedience and worship. However, they do not have any saving value. Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are outward reflections of an inward reality.

Evangelism & Missions
It is the duty and privilege of every follower of Christ and of every church of the Lord Jesus Christ to endeavor to make disciples of all nations. The new birth of man’s spirit by God’s Holy Spirit means the birth of love for others. Missionary effort on the part of all rests upon a spiritual necessity of the regenerate life, and is expressly and repeatedly commanded in the teachings of Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ has commanded the preaching of the gospel to all nations. While recognizing that God alone saves sinners, the true believer also recognizes that God accomplishes this saving work by the power of the Holy Spirit as his word is proclaimed. Never is a person saved apart from the truth of the gospel. Therefore, the final goal of evangelism and missions is the glory and renown of God as his truth is proclaimed and sinners are drawn to him.

Spiritual Gifts
Spiritual gifts are the skills or abilities given by the Holy Spirit to every individual believer for the edification of the church body. They are not natural talents or strengths. All men and women have talents and strengths that characterize who they are. Only born again believers in Jesus Christ possess spiritual gifts. The Holy Spirit distributes gifts to each member of the body just as he wills. Every member of the body, each with his or her own gifts, is needed for the health and growth of the body. The gifts as listed in Scripture can be easily divided into speaking and serving gifts and are as follows:
– Speaking Gifts: Prophecy, Teaching, Exhortation, Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge, Tongues, Interpretation of Tongues, Apostleship, Evangelist, Pastor-Teacher
– Serving Gifts: Ministry, Giving, Leading, Mercy, Faith, Healing, Miracles, Discerning of spirits, Helps, Administration

Tithe and Offering
God is the source of all blessings, temporal and spiritual; all that we have and are we owe to him. Believers are therefore under obligation to serve him with their time, talents, and material possessions; and should recognize all these as entrusted to them to use for the glory of God and for helping others. We believe it is the privilege and duty of the believer to set aside our tithes and offerings weekly. One hundred percent of all we have is His and we are entrusted with His resources for Kingdom building in our generation. This is how we become enabled to engage in the great commission, feed the hungry, clothe the naked and care for the sick. Jerome, the great church father of the fourth century echoed the words of Malachi who intimated that failing to pay tithes and offerings was tantamount to “robbing” God. In Deuteronomy 14:23 Moses communicated to the children of Israel, we tithe so that [we] may learn to revere the Lord [our] God always. Jesus reaffirmed the practice of tithing in Matthew 23:23 as an outward expression of an inward reality. (Resource from the Complete Bible Answer Book, Hank Hanegreaff and HGBC Staff)

Last Things
God, in his own time and in his own way, will bring the world to its appropriate end. According to his promise, Jesus Christ will return in glory personally and visibly to the earth. He will set up the millennial kingdom, and those participating in the first resurrection will reign with him for a thousand years. After this, Christ will allow Satan one last rebellion, the unbelieving dead will be raised, and Christ will judge Satan, his demons, and all men in righteousness. The unrighteous will be consigned to Hell, the place of everlasting punishment. The righteous, in their resurrected and glorified bodies, will receive their reward and will dwell forever in Heaven with the Lord.
