About Ebenezer Congregational Church

Located in the historic South Bottoms area of Lincoln, Ebenezer first opened its doors in 1915. Ebenezer recognizes the Bible as the one true guide to faith and worship, and scriptural teaching is at the core of all services. Music has always had a special place at Ebenezer and is an integral part of each worship service, incorporating both traditional and contemporary forms. The education of children and youth is a core value at Ebenezer, and children are encouraged to participate not only in Sunday School but in all services and activities. When asked to describe the positive qualities of Ebenezer, you will heard words such as family, welcoming, giving, caring, fellowship, warm, embracing, friendship, and sense of community. The members often refer to their “church family” and uphold each other in prayer as well as in more practical ways. If you are seeking a loving environment in which to grow and strengthen your relationship with God, we hope you will visit us.

BELIEFS

Ebenezer Congregational Church recognizes the Bible as the sufficient rule of faith and practice and holds that living in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ is the true test of fellowship. Each member has the undisturbed right to follow the Word of God according to the dictates of his own conscience, under the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit. We believe in God the Father, infinite in wisdom, goodness and love, and in Jesus Christ, His Son, our Lord and Savior, who for us and our salvation lived, died, and rose again and lives evermore; and in the Holy Spirit who takes the things of Christ and reveals them to us, renewing, comforting, and inspiring the souls of men. We are united in striving to know the will of God as taught in the Holy Scriptures and in our purpose to walk in the ways of the Lord made known or to be made known to us. We hold it to be the mission of the Church of Christ to proclaim the gospel to all mankind, exalting the worship of the one true God and laboring for the progress of knowledge, the promotion of justice, the reign of peace, and the realization of human brotherhood. Depending as our fathers did, upon the continued guidance of the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth, we work and pray for the transformation of the world into the Kingdom of God; and we look with faith for the triumph of righteousness and the life everlasting. Apostle’s Creed The Apostles’ Creed evolved into its present form by the seventh century, although much of the text originated in the first century. It is frequently used in Protestant churches during Sunday worship, and Ebenezer has adopted the Apostle’s Creed as the embodiment of its profession of faith. I believe in God the Father, Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
