BELIEFS
We Believe in One True God:
With the whole Christian Church throughout time, we at St. Paul's Lutheran Church proclaim and respond to the love of the Triune God:
the Father, creator of all that exists;
Jesus Christ, the Son, who became a human to suffer and die for the sins of all mankind and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over death and Satan;
and the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God's Word and Sacraments.
The three persons of the Trinity have each existed from eternity and are equal within the Godhead. Each is a distinct person and yet they are profoundly, only one God.
God’s Grace saves us:
When Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden, all mankind and all creation was utterly contaminated by sin. Even so, God continued to love His whole creation though we constantly rebel against Him and do not deserve His love. In His time, He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.
We are saved through Faith:
By His suffering and death on the cross, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for all people of all time. He became our Substitute.Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him.
We Submit to the Word:
The Bible is God's Inspired Word. It is without error or mistake. It is through this Word that God reveals all truth. He shows us His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. We believe that God's Word is is like a ruler: we measure true Christian teaching and life against it alone.
We Confess together:
The Lutheran Confessions were originally written as a public document expressing the faith of the Lutheran Reformers against the false teachings which had come to be part of the Church. As members of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, we stand with the Reformers, and the whole Christian Church throughout time, making these statements our own. We do so, not to replace Scripture, but because we believe these documents and the teachings they contain are true expositions of the Bible itself. These documents serve as authoritative texts for our doctrine and practice as a congregation.
