BELIEFS

What We Believe About God The Father God the Father is the Sovereign Designer and Ruler of the universe. He is the Source of all things and has eternally, or always, existed. He is all powerful, all knowing, ever present, unchanging, completely worthy of our trust, and above all, holy. It is in Him that we live, move and exist. He is loving, compassionate, and faithful to His people and His promises. He is co-equal with God the Son and God the Holy Spirit within the Triune Godhead. Genesis 1:1, 26-27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; I Peter 1:2; II Corinthians 13:14; Exodus 3:14; Numbers 23:19; Leviticus 11:44-45; 19:2; Psalm 11:4-6; Malachi 3:6 John 3:16; 4:24; 5:26; 14:1; Acts 17:28; Romans 3:3-4 About God the Son - Jesus Christ Jesus Christ is God the Son. He is co-equal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Jesus came to earth and was completely human, and at the same time completely God. He lived a perfect, sinless human life so that He could be a substitution for us in satisfying God's demands for perfection. He offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of king's and Lord of lords. Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; I Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; I Timothy 6:14-15: Titus 2:13 About God the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit is co-equal with God the Father and God the Son. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides Christians with power for living, understanding spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. His presence also assures us of our relationship with Christ. He comforts us, gives us spiritual gifts, and makes us more like Christ. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily. II Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; I Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18; Genesis 1:2; Psalms 51:11; 139:7; Isaiah 61:1-3; Joel 2:28-32; Mark 1:10; Luke 1:35; 4:1; 11:13; 12:12; John 15:26; 16:7-14; Acts 1:8; 2:1-4; 13:2; Romans 8:9-11, 14-16, 26-27; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Ephesians 1:13-14; 2 Peter 1:21; Revelation 22:17 NOTE: Although each member of the Trinity (God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit) serves different functions, they each possess equal power and authority. They are not 3 separate "Gods" but the Lord is One God displayed in 3 "personalities". Deuteronomy 6:4 and Mark 12:29 About the Bible The Bible is God's Word to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error and is completely relevant to our daily lives. II Timothy 3:16 ; II Peter 1:20-21; II Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5 About Human Beings People were made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God's creation. The purpose of our creation was to have fellowship with God. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin". This attitude separates people from God, causes many problems in life, and results in eternity in hell. Genesis 1:26-30, 2:7; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2 About Salvation The blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the only way of salvation through the forgiveness of sin. Salvation occurs when people place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin. Salvation is God's free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus, in faith, we are saved. Eternal life with Jesus Christ begins the moment one receives Him. Isaiah 1:18; 53:5-6; 55:7; Matthew 1:21; 27:22-28:6; Luke 1:68-69; 2:28-32; John 1:12; 3:16, 36; 5:24; Acts 2:21; 4:12; 16:30-31; Romans 1:16-18; 3:23-25; 5:1, 8-10; 6:1, 6:23; Corinthians 1:18; 2 Corinthians 5:17-20; Galatians 2:20, 26; 3:13; Ephesians 2:8-10; Philippians 2:12-13; Hebrews 9:24-28; Revelation 3:2; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5 About Eternal Security People were created to exist forever. Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If you have been genuinely saved, you cannot "lose" it. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security. John 10:29; II Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25; 10:10, 14; I Peter 1:3-5 About Eternity People were created to exist forever. We will exist eternally either: In hell, separated from God by sin, or In heaven, with God, through forgiveness and salvation Heaven and Hell are real and literal places of eternal existence. Ecclesiastes 3:11; John 3:16; John 14:17; Romans 6:23; Romans 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; I Cor. 2:7-9 About The Church The church is a local community of baptized believers unified through faith in Christ. It is committed to the teachings of Christ, to obeying all of His commands, and it seeks to take the gospel to the world. The Church works together in love and unity, intent on the ultimate purpose of glorifying Christ. Matthew 16:18-19; 18:15-20; Acts 2:41-47; 5:11-14; 13:1-3; 14:23; 16:5; 20:28; 1 Corinthians 7:17; 9:13-14; 12; Ephesians 1:22-23; 2:19-22; 3:10-12; 5:22-32; Colossians 1:18; 3:15; 1 Timothy 4:14; 1 Peter 5:1-4; Revelation 21:2-3
