About Anchor Bible Church

Welcome! It is my hope that these pages will help you to get to know us and encourage your interest in Anchor Bible Church. We believe that the Bible is God’s Word to mankind. We stake our lives and ministries on it. We are compelled to study, interpret, and teach the Word so that we will know God truly and so that we will live faithfully unto Him. We rejoice in the Gospel – the good news of forgiveness and eternal life and fellowship with God for all who turn from their sin and place their faith in Jesus Christ, who is the anchor for our souls. We will always be an imperfect gathering of sinners who are saved by grace, but it is my endless desire that Anchor Bible Church will be characterized as a faithful community of believers who seek to exalt God, edify one another, and eagerly bring the truth of the gospel to the spiritually lost. Please join us for Sunday morning worship. We would be honored to minister to you. Many blessings, Pastor Chris Grazor

BELIEFS

Statement of Faith The Holy Scriptures 1.We believe that the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments complete the canon and are God’s written revelation to man. Every word of Scripture is inerrant in the original documents. We affirm the infallibility, sufficiency, and authority of the Word of God in all areas of faith, life, and godliness. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Matthew 5:18; Hebrews 4:12-13; 2 Peter 1:2-3; John 16:12-13) The GODHEAD 2.We believe that there is one living, true, and Triune God, who created the earth and all things in six literal days. He is an infinite all-knowing Spirit, perfect in all His attributes, one in essence, and eternally existing in three distinct persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit – each having the same attributes and perfections, equally deserving worship and obedience. (Exodus 20:11; Deuteronomy 6:4; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Acts 20:28; 1 Corinthians 12:4-6) The Person and Work of Jesus Christ 3.We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man, without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and virgin born, in order that He might reveal God, redeem sinful men and instruct toward righteousness. (John 1:1-2, 14; Luke 1:35; Matthew 1:22-25; Luke 10:22; Titus 2:11-14) We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a vicarious, substitutionary atonement; and, that our justification is made sure by His literal physical resurrection from the dead. (1 Corinthians 15:14-19; Ephesians 1:7; Romans 3:24-25; 1 Peter 2:24; Isaiah 53:4-12; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Romans 4:25) We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ bodily rose from the dead, physically ascended into heaven, and is now seated and exalted at the right hand of God, where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of Intercessor and Advocate. (Ephesians 1:20; Colossians 3:1; 1 Corinthians 15:14-19; Acts 1:9-10; Hebrews 6:20; 9:24; 7:25; Romans 8:34; I John 2:1-2) We believe in the bodily return of the Lord Jesus Christ to the earth in power and glory to bring judgment to those who have believed in Him unto eternal life and to those who have not unto eternal damnation, Jew and Gentile alike. (Matthew 25:31-46; Revelation 20:11-15) The Person and Work of The Holy Spirit 4.We believe the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. He is the supernatural Agent in regeneration, spiritually baptizing all believers into the Body of Christ at the moment of salvation, fully indwelling them and sealing them unto the day of redemption. (John 16:8-11; Titus 3:5; 2 Corinthians 3:6; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14; Romans 8:9; Ephesians 1:13-14) We believe that the Holy Spirit is the Divine teacher who guides believers into all truth, gifts believers at the moment of salvation with spiritual gifts, and empowers them to use these gifts for the edification of the church. Every believer is called to mature in the use of his or her gift(s) and to walk and to serve in the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. (John 16:13; 1 Corinthians 2:12-13; 12:4; 1 John 2:20, 27; 1 Corinthians 14:12, 26; Ephesians 4:16; Ephesians 5:18; Galatians 5:16-17, 22-25) We believe that there are two categories of spiritual gifts; revelatory (miraculous) gifts, and auxiliary or ministering gifts. The revelatory gifts of divine revelation, healing, and tongues (i.e. languages) were temporarily given in the apostolic era for the purpose of confirming the authenticity and authority of the apostles’ message. The ministering gifts are given to equip believers for edifying one another and evangelizing the lost and are the only gifts in operation today. (Hebrews 2:3-4; 2 Corinthians 12:12; 1 Corinthians 14:12, 26; Ephesians 14:16; 1 Corinthians 13:8-10; Romans 12:6-8) Man and Sin 5.We believe that all men are sinners and sinned in the transgression of Adam in the Garden of Eden when tempted by Satan. This has caused all humanity to be separated from God, in sin, spiritually dead, and unable to respond to the gospel apart from God’s intervention of grace. (Genesis 3:1-7; Romans 3:23; 5:12; Ephesians 2:1-3; John 6:44, 6:65; 1 Corinthians 2:14; Ephesians 2:8-9) Salvation 6.We believe that salvation is a preordained, unconditional, unmerited, miraculous work of God, which is by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. At the moment of salvation, a sinner is regenerated by the Holy Spirit, making him capable of responding to the gospel in repentance and faith and is transformed to be spiritually alive with a new nature. (Romans 8:29-30; Romans 9:16; John 1:12-13; Ephesians 2:1-10; Titus 3:5; John 6:44; Ephesians 2:5; 2 Corinthians 5:17) We believe that sanctification is both positional and progressive. Positional sanctification refers to the believer being set apart by God unto God by justification and thereby declared to be holy and righteous in God’s sight and forever more identified as a saint. Progressive sanctification refers to the increasing holiness of the believer through obedience to the Word of God and conformity to the will of God by the empowering of the Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 1:4-5; Romans 5:1-2, 9; 8:29-30, 38-39; Colossians 1:29; Titus 2:11-14; Colossians 3:12-17; Romans 12:1-2; Romans 8:14; Galatians 5:22-23) The Church 7.We believe that all who have been called to faith in Jesus Christ as Savior in this present age are immediately placed by the Holy Spirit into one united spiritual Body, the Church, of which Christ is the Head. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by encouraging its members in the faith, by instruction of the Word, by fellowship, by keeping the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s supper, and by advancing and communicating the gospel to the entire world. The church, the Body of Christ, began on the Day of Pentecost and will be completed at the coming of Christ for the visible church at the rapture. (Ephesians 2:11-3:6; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; Colossians 1:18, 24; 1 Corinthians 12-14; Acts 2:42; Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:1-21, 38-47; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17) Last Things 8.We believe in a literal pretribulational rapture of the church, a literal seven years of great tribulation upon the earth, and a literal premillennial return of Jesus Christ to the earth with the church that will begin his literal 1,000-year reign (i.e. millennial kingdom) from Jerusalem. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; 1 Corinthians 15:51-53; Daniel 9:24-27; Revelation 6-18; Joel 3:1-2; Revelation 19:11-16, 19-21; 20:10, 14-15; Matthew 24:37-41) We believe that the church is distinct from the nation of Israel and that the millennial kingdom itself will be the fulfillment of God’s promise to Israel. (Ezekiel 37:21-28; Zechariah 8:1-17) We believe this time will be followed by the final judgment of all things and the creation of the New Heavens and the New Earth. (Revelation 20:1-10; 1 Corinthians 10:32; Isaiah 65:17-25; Revelation 20:11-15; Revelation 21:1)
