Meet The Pastor
Pastor Matthew A. Pugh
Matthew has served as the pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist Church since July 1, 2014.
A native of Kitzmiller, Matthew graduated from Southern Garrett High School in Oakland. He continued his education earning a Bachelor of Arts from Messiah College in Grantham, PA, the Master of Divinity degree from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, MO, and the Doctor of Ministry degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C.
As a seminary student, Matthew served as an associate pastor of worship and discipleship at an Assemblies of God congregation. After graduating from seminary, he taught as an instructor of Bible and Theology at Evangel University, a liberal arts college in Springfield for three years.
Prior to serving St. Paul's, Matthew worked in banking as a branch manager with U.S. Bank and Assistant Vice President and Market Manager at Susquehanna Bank. During that time, he also served bi-vocationally as pastor of the Elk Garden Charge of the United Methodist Church.
Matthew is active in the Garrett County community and in District and Conference ministries. He has served on numerous boards including Garrett County Community Action Committee, Garrett Regional Medical Center, Drug Free Communities Coalition, and United Way of Garrett County. He currently chairs the Potomac Highlands District Committee on Ministry and teaches in the West Virginia Extension Course of Study program.
