BELIEFS
As a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) we believe:
- God created all things and is the ultimate authority in the universe. God has a direction for history and is involved in history and people's lives. God seeks to have a relationship with us, loving us, caring for us, forgiving us and bringing us wholeness. God reveals self in many ways, most perfectly in Jesus Christ, and we can trust God in all situations.
- The 66 books of the Bible are God's gifts to us. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit (God's power in the world) people in history recorded God's activity in life and the Bible came into being. The Bible comes alive for us as we listen to God in the words of the Bible through the Holy Spirit. The Bible's words are timeless.
- We live in relationship with God by God's love (grace) rather than by what we do. We separate ourselves from God's way
– We call that sin. Only God, through Jesus Christ, can close that separation. Out of love God came in Jesus Christ, to live among us, and offered hope and healing in word and action. Our lives are directed by Jesus' way. Our forgiveness is assured through Jesus' death on the cross. Our hope is established by Jesus' resurrection. Jesus is the living Lord who is present with us.
- We live as Jesus' followers not to gain God's favor but in response to God's love in Jesus Christ. We seek to be faithful followers of Jesus' and his way, being empowered by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit guides us in life and faith. We live knowing that “nothing in life and death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
