Pastor Dan
There is no higher calling in life than to have an on-going, deep, and loving relationship with God. I could not say it better than Apostle Paul when he said, "I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection..." (Phil 3:10). It is the deepest desire of my soul to know God in an intimate way, and I thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Who has made this desire possible through receiving His gift of salvation, in faith. Of many things I am convinced, but none as much as the fact that God has called me to be a pastor and to serve Him in that role. And within this calling, there are three main values that I seek to maintain and which serve as a foundation for my philosophy of ministry.
1. As it is true of any calling from God, it is most important for me to be committed to the process of spiritual growth as a pastor. To that extent that Christ seeks for me to grow and serve others in a pastoral role, I know too, that He continues to change me to fit to His Image.
2. I understand that my pastoral calling, though it is the joy of my life, does not supersede my calling as a husband to my wife, a father to my children, and an opa (grandpa) to my grandchildren. The hierarchy of my priorities are first with a personal relationship to God, secondly to my family and thirdly to my pastoral ministry.
3. I understand that I am foremost a servant. God has not called me to the pastoral role so I can benefit from this title of position. Rather He has called me to serve Him and to be a shepherd for others within their personal walk in faith in God. My belief of a shepherd is one who has been given the responsibility as a caretaker, one who looks after his sheep, leading them to green pastures, protecting them, nurturing and feeding them while helping them with their needs all the while giving of himself for the health and betterment of his sheep.
