About Saint John's Episcopal Church

At St. John’s, our worship is grounded on the truth of the Bible as transmitted in the beauty of the Anglican tradition. It is done with reverence and dignity, according to the time-tested Biblical and traditional forms of the historic Book of Common Prayer (in the edition of 1928). Some services are very simple, others are “dressed up” with elaborate music, ornament, and ceremony. In those with music, the music is traditionally Anglican or Episcopalian – a mix of choral and congregational singing accompanied in pipe organ. Congregational singing is based on the canticles of the Prayer Book, and hymns from the 1940 Episcopal Hymnal and other hymnals of similar character.

BELIEFS

BUILDING A COMMUNITY IN CHRIST Now, therefore, ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God; and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone; in whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto a holy temple in the Lord: in whom ye also are built together for a habitation of God through the Spirit. Ephesians 2:19-22 GROUNDED IN HISTORIC FAITH beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. Jude 3 REVERENT IN WORSHIP O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness; let the whole earth stand in awe of him. (Psalm 96) COMMITTED TO SHARING THE GOSPEL Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Matthew 28:19,20 TRANSFORMED BY THE TRUTH I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:1, 2.
