About Emmanuel Baptist Church

Emmanuel Baptist Church is a Southern Baptist church in Modesto California. This Southern Baptist Convention church serves Stanislaus County CA - Pastor Anthony Bargas. Unlike many of the big mega churches we are just a small church who is big on hand shakes & hugs. Yes we love to warmly greet new visitors. We don’t care what car you drive, how much money you have, how many tattoos you have, and our dress code is simple, just wear cloths. For example, in some churches a person in more edgy clothing would be welcomed with open arms, while someone in very conservative dress may be eschewed almost suspiciously. A man in a suit and tie might be as unwelcome in one church as a woman with tattoos and body piercings might be in another. And both forms of prejudice are wrong and unwelcoming. We would love to get to know you, we love meeting new friends and fellowship. So we encourage you to join us on ebcmodesto.com That’s why we say ; “Come as you are”. That’s our church. BELIEFS

Scripture is clear that when a person becomes a Christian, that person is joined to the church by the Holy Spirit (see, for example, 1 Cor 12:12-13 . It’s not an option for a believer in Jesus to be a part of the church of Jesus Christ or not. If you’re a Christian, you’re a member of the church. Period. If you’re unsure, then you will need a church that gives you the opportunity to become sure. That’s our church… Of course you can choose not to act on this truth. You can choose to amputate yourself from the body of Christ in practice. There are many Christians who do not associate with other believers in any tangible, regular way. This is not what God intends for us. But it is an option that many Christians take and usually a lonely one. There are three basic truths you need to know before deciding on joining a church. Whether you go in person or worship online these truths are most important. Acceptance – Sound Doctrine – Worship – Christian Fellowship ~Acceptance~ I will start with acceptance since most people avoid uncomfortable places we all need to be in a church where we can be comfortable. That’s why we say ; “Come as you are”. That’s our church. ~Sound Doctrine~ Webster’s dictionary defines doctrine as: : “a set of ideas or beliefs that are taught or believed to be true”. The church should affirm as essential beliefs that which Christians have affirmed essential for centuries (Jesus as fully God and fully human; God as Trinity; Jesus as Savior of the world, etc.) So how do you know what a church really believes? Quite a few churches have simple, relatively short statements of faith, in which they summarize core beliefs. The purpose of our church is summarized in a single sentence. “We believe a great commitment to the great commandment and the great commission will grow a great church.” Consider our extensive statement of faith for example here. That’s our church. ~Worship~ This recommendation might seem so obvious as to be almost not worth mentioning. What is a church, if not a place to worship? But finding a place where you can worship, truly worship, is not quite as simple as it sounds. For one thing, worship isn’t just sitting through a so-called “worship service.” It’s not listening to a sermon. It’s not evening singing songs and reading Bible passages. Worship, at its core, is intimate communication with God. It’s responding to God’s nature and activity by offering to God praise, thanks, honor, love, and, most of all, yourself. The main point isn’t the excellence of the sermon or the music. It isn’t even whether you like the worship services or not. Rather, the main point is whether a church helps you to offer yourself to God in the weekly gathering, and, by extension, in the rest of your life. That is what Emmanuel Baptist Church is all about. We encourage each other to fulfil God’s work. We have a great Pastor and even if you are living thousands of miles away from our church, you can still be blessed by watching our pastor’s sermons right here on our website. After all God uses the internet too. That’s our church. ~Fellowship~ Poor communication has been the plague of mankind ever since the tower of Babel. Such statements as the following reveal that we face problems when trying to communicate to one another: “I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I’m not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.” What is important to see here is that no individual working alone could ever fulfill God’s plan. I have had several people who I have witnessed to say; ” I am a christian but I don’t need to go to any church. In fact there was a time when I was the one who said that to others. One day I was online reading blog post and some christian woman asked what church I go to. I replied that I did not need to go to any church to be a christian. I knew I was saved so I figured I did not need to worry about attending any churches. I was surprised by the response from the woman whom I had never met. The conversation went like this: HER: “Do you live alone?” ME: “YES” HER: Do you have electricity? ME: Huh like duh, yes. HER: “Will your electricity coming into your house work if you have broken wiring?” ME: “Of course not“. HER: “Why?” ME: “Like Duh lady, the wiring is broke“. HER: “The power is ready to do its work…, but where there is broken wiring, there is no power. Unity is necessary among the children of God if we are going to know the flow of power…to see God do His wonders. Fellowship is the mortar that holds that unity in place.” So I started going back to Emmanuel Baptist which was my childhood church. Now my electric is working great and spreading across the internet spreading the good news for the glory of GOD. That’s our church… Get involved in GOD”S plan for your life. Don’t live your life out of GODS plan by amputating yourself from other christians. Even if you live far away why not take advantage of our online ministries?
