Please read and share! I'm going to try to keep this as short as possible-but I hope by posting this it'll save other families from the situation. On May 4 I received a phone call that my Nana had been baker acted. I was shocked and immediately rushed to the hospital. There they told me that she had been baker acted by her church and I should call a woman named Pat Hill to get more information. I met with Pat and she informed me that she had noticed a significant decline and my Nana's mental health over "the last few months". She stated that she believed my grandmother suffered from "severe dementia". This was then confirmed by the hospital. Pat also informed me that on March 16 the church had paid for an attorney to write up a will for my Nana leaving everything to the church. Only to seven weeks later than be baker acted by the same church. Pat also informed me that after the will was written up Pastor Sam had told her that she "needed to take a step back" and not be "so involved" with caring for my Nana. Unfortunately after my Nana was baker acted they deemed her "Incompetent to make medical decisions". I then became her healthcare by proxy. My Nana never heard from or saw any members of the church again, however I did keep them posted on her medical state. Unfortunately on June 12th my Nana passed away. I called Pat the next day to let her know. In that conversation she informed me that "the church would be happy to hand the will over to me". She knew that my Nana wasn't well at the time of writing it. Pat then informed me that she was going to call the attorney and tell him that they wanted to forfeit their rights to the inheritance. Over the last few weeks we've had interactions were Pat has told me "the attorney is out of town" and "I haven't received a response". On Wednesday I found out that they had actually filed the will and it seems never had any intention of including the family. Pat only gave ud that impression to avoid us formally contesting the will. I'm sharing this because it is clear that this church saw my Nana's declining mental state as an opportunity to capitalize. With this church being located in the center of an elderly community I hope by sharing the story to avoid anyone else falling victim to their scam.
