BELIEFS

Calvary Essentials Because: God is love. - All people everywhere are created in the image and likeness of God, equally beloved and equally offered grace again and again. - All creation is of sacred worth because it is wonderfully and purposefully made and beloved by God. - We see God’s heart and love revealed in Jesus, as found in the Scriptures and practiced in our daily lives. - God is with us now, through the power of the Holy Spirit, leading us, challenging us, and transforming us so that God’s purposes for the entire creation can be fulfilled. Therefore: We welcome and serve in the name of the living Christ. - We are called to be the Blessed Community, nurturing and cultivating one another into disciples of Jesus Christ for our own transformation and for the world’s. - We invite those around us into our community through our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. Together we can act more powerfully than we can alone. Together we discover and use our spiritual gifts as we journey on to serve each other, our community, and our world. - We come together to make disciples of Jesus Christ and love one another as we feed the hungry, clothe the naked, house the homeless, heal the sick, welcome the stranger, work for justice, and overcome what divides us, because that is what Jesus does. - In our Blessed Community, it is safe to be who you really are. We are an accepting church. We welcome all to our fellowship, sacraments, and ceremonies. We nurture each other in our individual faith journeys, supporting all in their call to ministry. - We use Wesley’s Quadrilateral (scripture, tradition, reason, and experience) to help make choices. We take the Bible seriously and, in community, we work out our own direction. - The Holy Spirit leads each of us into peace through places that are sometimes challenging and uncomfortable. We respect each other and we choose to talk out our differences with love and respect without breaking the Blessed Community. People can disagree; we do not have to think alike to love alike.
