The Christian Congregation
The Christian Congregation is a denominational evangelistic association that originated in 1798 and was active on the frontier in areas adjacent to the Ohio River. The church was an unincorporated organization until 1887. It remains strong in the rural areas of Kentucky, the Carolinas, Virginia,Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee and Texas. Members have a wide range of beliefs because they are based on John 13:34-35 "love one another" rather than doctrinal agreement. The church can have fundamentalists, pentecostals, liberals, and humanists. However, the church condemns abortion, capital punishment and all warfare.
