Meet The Pastor
Dr. Matt Tarr
Pastor Matt grew up in the backwoods of the Pocono Mountains, where he fell in love with NEPA and grew up in a family dedicated to Christ and His church. He had the privilege to hear the gospel from his earliest days, and it was then that he realized he was helpless in sin and needed to be justified by faith alone in the substitutionary work of Christ for the forgiveness of our sins and to be declared righteous in God's sight. After high school, Matt went to Liberty University to compete as a decathlete in Track & Field, where he first began to feel the call to full-time vocational ministry. After graduating with a degree in Pastoral Leadership, he went on to receive his M.Div. and D.Min. degrees from the Master's Seminary in Los Angeles, CA. During his time there, he also had the privilege of working as a staff member at Grace Community Church under the leadership of Pastor-Teacher Dr. John MacArthur.
In 2014, Matt and his family moved back to NEPA so that he could assume the role of Pastor-Teacher at High Point Baptist Church. Matt and his wife Melody love the church and God's people, and simply enjoying life with their four boys: Jon, Tim, Chris, and Nick. If you can't find them at High Point, they'll be somewhere outside - hiking, hunting (well, Matt and the boys hunt, anyway), playing sports (especially baseball, hockey, and soccer), sitting around a campfire, or simply just exploring. They currently live in Harvey's Lake where Lord has blessed them with a beautiful country home on the edge of PA's Endless Mountains and they love extending hospitality to everyone!
