Meet The Pastor

Rev. Jonathan Owens
I grew up in the heart of Dallas, Texas; went to school at Calvin College in Michigan; and then moved out to the mountains of Salt Lake City, Utah with my wife Jennifer. After spending seven years playing in the mountains and deserts of Utah (where I worked as a rope-access technician) we moved back to Michigan for graduate school. That became journey that took us from there to Milwaukee and eventually to Amsterdam, across 4 schools and into a PhD. We are all excited to be back in the mountains serving in the Bozeman Community. Our family moved to Bozeman, MT in July 2018 after I received a call to become the pastor of Bozeman Christian Reformed Church (on the corner of 5th and Villard). Part of the reason I was excited to leave academia for pastoring is because I love the Church - for united together, we are Christ's body, hands, feet and open arms, on earth to be Christ to our neighbors. As such, we are also invited by God to participate in the renewal of creation. To this end, I am also writing my dissertation at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, with a focus on understanding the place of Evangelicalism within a society that is increasingly both pluralistic and secular. As a family, we love all things outdoors: riding bikes, skiing, camping, paddling, and rock climbing. Personally, I also enjoy cooking, especially Middle Eastern and French cuisine.
