BELIEFS

------------ GOD ------------ God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are equal and are one God. The term “God” is often theologically expressed as the “God-head: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit”. Genesis 1:1, 26-27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14 ------------ THE FATHER ------------ God the Father is the creator and sustainer of all things. God is great: He is all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present, unchanging, completely worthy of our trust, and above all, holy. It is in Him that we live, move and exist. God is good: He is our Father. He is loving, compassionate, and faithful to His people and His promises. Exodus 3:14; Numbers 23:19; Leviticus 11:44-45; 19:2; Psalm 11:4-6; Malachi 3:6; John 3:16; 4:24; 5:26; 14:1; Acts 17:28; Romans 3:3-4 ------------ THE SON ------------ Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He is equal with the Father. Born of a virgin, Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for our sins by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven and will return again to earth to reign. Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13; ------------ THE HOLY SPIRIT ------------ The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make us aware of our need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily. 2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; ------------ THE BIBLE ------------ The Bible is the inspired Word of God. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error. 2 Timothy 1:13, 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5; ------------ SALVATION ------------ Salvation is a gift from God. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can we be saved from sin’s penalty. Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5; ------------ ETERNITY ------------ God created us to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence. John 3:16, 36; 6:51; 10:27-28; Daniel 12:2-3; Revelation 20:14-155 ------------ BAPTISM ------------ The Bible teaches we are saved by grace through faith. Our practice is baptism by immersion, which best represents the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and symbolizes the burial of the old self and the emerging of a “new creation” in our own lives as we seek to walk and grow with Christ. Salvation is a gift that is given freely by God through the complete and atoning sacrifice Jesus made for us on the cross. According to the New Testament, baptism is the first visible expression of our faith. We are compelled to be baptized because Jesus both commanded it and modeled it. Baptism is an outward expression of the inward work that has taken place in our heart through faith in Jesus Christ. Romans 6:1-5; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Acts 8:35-38; Matthew 28:19-20 ------------ COMMUNION ------------ Communion, or The Lord’s Supper, is practiced monthly, according to the example of the New Testament church. Communion consists of unleavened bread and grape juice and is open to all believers. The purpose of The Lord’s Supper is three-fold: to remind the church of the New Covenant with God, to acknowledge Christ’s death until He returns, and to promote a time of self-examination. Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:14-20; John 6:22-69; 1 Corinthians 5:7; 1 Corinthians 10:16 ------------ THE PROMISE ------------ According to the command of Jesus, all believers are entitled to the promise of the Father which is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. With it comes the enduement of power for life and service, the bestowment of gifts and their uses in the work of the ministry. This wonderful experience is distinct from and subsequent to the experience of Salvation, the New Birth. Luke 24:29; Acts 1:4-8; 10:44-46; 11:14-16; 16:7-9; 19:1-6; 1 Cor. 12:1-31 ------------ THE GIFTS ------------ God has given every Christian gifts according to the grace given them as stated in the Word of God. The use of these gifts is intended to benefit those around us and give glory and honor to God. Romans 1:12; 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:1-3; 1 Peter 4:10-11; Ephesians 4:11 ------------ THE BLESSED HOPE ------------ The resurrection of those who have died in Christ and their translation, together with those who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord, is imminent and is the blessed hope of the Church. 1 Thessalonians 4:16; Romans 8:23; Titus 2:3
