About St. Simeon Orthodox Church

“The newest Church in Santa Clarita is the oldest church in the world” On February 8, 2015, His Eminence Metropolitan JOSEPH, Primate of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, will officially open St. Simeon Orthodox Church of Santa Clarita and will celebrate its first Divine Liturgy. The North American Archdiocese is part of the ancient See of Antioch, started by the Apostles Peter and Paul. It was “in Antioch the disciples were for the first time called Christians.” (Act 11:26 RSV) The new St. Simeon Orthodox Church, a mission of the Antiochian Archdiocese, was originally established in November, 2013 to bring the Orthodox Faith and Worship to the Santa Clarita Valley. The effort began with a handful of families who gathered in a small room to celebrate Great Vespers every Saturday. In a few short months that group grew to nearly 30 families and 25 children. They are now worshipping in their own chapel at its current location on Bouquet Canyon Road, just north of Plum Canyon. “We are so excited to formally bring Orthodox Christianity to Santa Clarita,” says Rev. Fr. George Ajalat, pastor of the mission. “We often lament that the Orthodox Church is the best kept secret in America. That secret needs to get out and this valley is the perfect place for it. The Orthodox Christian Church is the original Church established by Jesus Christ, born on Pentecost and built on the shoulders of the Apostles Peter and Paul. We, as Orthodox Christians, continue to the present day in the fullness of this same Apostolic Faith which has been handed down to us from generation to generation. Yet, the vast majority of Santa Clarita has never heard of us. We are here to change that. We are here to give Christians and non-Christians alike the opportunity to discover the Church that Christ Himself established. As we like to say, ‘the newest church in Santa Clarita is the oldest Church in the world.’” St. Simeon will continue to celebrate Great Vespers each Saturday evening at 5:30 pm with Bible Study for youth and adults to follow. Lessons in Church music and chant, followed potluck dinners are also offered on the first Saturday of each month-all are welcome. Wednesday morning prayer services are held at 8:30 – 9:00 am when people come together to pray for our children and for those who are ill in our community. Again, all are welcome. This prayer service is followed by Pastor’s office hours until 10:00 AM. Fr. George is glad to meet with anyone at this time to answer questions about the Orthodox Christian faith. He is also available by appointment. Beginning on Feb. 8, 2015 Sunday Services will begin, with Matins at 8:30 am. followed by Divine Liturgy at 9:30 am. St. Simeon Orthodox Church is located at 28200 Bouquet Canyon Road, Suite A, Santa Clarita, CA 91350. To learn more visit www.scvorthodox.com. Fr. BELIEFS

We believe in one God, the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible: And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Only-begotten, Begotten of the Father before all worlds, Light of Light, Very God of Very God, Begotten, not made; of one essence with the Father, by whom all things were made: Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man; And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried; And the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; And ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of the Father; And He shall come again with glory to judge the quick and the dead, Whose kingdom shall have no end. And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, Who proceedeth from the Father, Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified, Who spake by the Prophets; And we believe in One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins. we look for the Resurrection of the dead, And the Life of the world to come, Amen.
