Meet The Pastor

Pastor Stan Latta
Pastor Stan Latta is the shepherd of First Baptist of Blair. A church that is there to serve the community, disciple believers, provide real-life answers to people and where everyone is welcome. Pastor Stan serves as chaplain to the Pottawattamie County Jail, Pottawattamie Youth Detention Center in Iowa and the Sarpy County Jail and Sarpy County Youth Detention Center in Nebraska. Born and raised in Omaha, Stan received his BA in Bible and Humanities and his Master’s Degree in Counseling from Grace University. He served in a Christian ministry for 6 years as the Director of Men’s Recovery Programs at a homeless shelter and Director of the Psychology Department at Vatterott College. He also has taught at Grace University for 10 years as Adjunct Professor where he has written several of the Psychology courses for the Continuing Education Department. An avid reader, Stan reads 1 to 2 books per week through the year. Through the ministry of a Baptist Mission, he encountered faith in Christ for the first time during his teen years. Raised in a very rough section of the inner city, Stan saw two acquaintances die and several jailed during adolescence. He knows that it is just the grace of God that kept him from jail during his lifetime. Pastor Stan has been married to his wife Carol since 1973 and they have three children and nine grandchildren. They remain actively involved in the lives of all of them. Stan loves the Word of God and believes that when properly taught in it's original context, it is fascinating and meaniningful for guidance in our daily life. He believes in a strong teahing ministry of origianl context and strength found in the fellowship of the church.
