Meet The Pastor
Pastor Tim Scarbrough
Pastors Tim and Brenda Scarbrough
In the summer of 1996, Tim Scarbrough resigned his position as a Pastor in Corning California, following some personal and spiritual struggles. His marriage soon collapsed and he found himself as a divorced man determined to never again answer the call God had placed on his life. His life took many twists and turns as he poured himself into his job as a Design Consultant for a contract furniture company.
In 1999, he met Brenda. She had recently gone through a divorce and had moved back to California from Texas to be closer to her family. It wasn't long before Tim and Brenda became inseperable as their love for one another grew. It was through her faith in Jesus Christ and encouragement to Tim that he even began to think about stepping back into serving the Lord.
Following their marriage in 2001, Tim and Brenda began to serve in a local church. Tim became the Adminstrative Pastor and Brenda worked as the church secretary. The Senior Pastor of the church was set to retire and felt it was God's plan for Tim to become the next Pastor of the church. Tim and Brenda both felt this was from the Lord, as well as the local congregation. However, because of Tim's divorce and remarriage the denominational officials wouldn't allow him to do it. This caused a great deal of hurt in Tim and this time he begged God to remove the call on his life.
In the following years, Tim dedicated himself to his work and family. He started his own office furniture business in 2007 and continued to help other churches in areas of worship and giving. After having to shut down his business in 2010 due to a poor economy, Tim again wondered just what he would do and decided to start a video production company that he still operates today.
At the end of 2010, Tim felt he really needed to get closer to the Lord. He started spending at least an hour a day in prayer, coupled with fasting and intense study of God's word. One morning as he was praying, the Lord spoke to him this specific word: "I am urgently calling the shepherds who have left the fields to take up their staffs and return to gather the flocks." As he received this word, tears flowed from his eyes, knowing that God's true plan was for him to be a Pastor.
It has been through the encouragement of Brenda and the blessing from other ministers and people of God, that Tim began to seek the Lord's specific plan. As he did so, the vision for Godspeed Church was birthed. Though he had much church experience, what God began to lay out for him was different than anything he had done before. Tim began to see the importance of opening the doors of the church to everyone from all walks of life, whether they're rich or poor, black or white, gay or straight, each person is to be welcomed, loved and valued. They all are to be pointed to Jesus and encouraged in their walk with Him. One of the most important things the Lord laid on Tim's heart was that he needed to trust God to do the changing in people's lives, and to step away from trying to modify their behavior, knowing that God is the one who begins the good work and He is the one who completes it.
As this vision and plan has been presented, the Lord has blessed Tim and Brenda with wonderful people who have been called along side them to help build this new work. The journey has truly just begun...
