About Peace United Church Of Christ
he phrase, many streams, one church, has been used to describe the United Church of Christ and can be used to describe our own congregation.
In 1934 the Evangelical Church and the Reformed Church merged to form the Evangelical and Reformed Church. The 1929 merger of the Christian Church and the Congregational Church formed the Christian Congregational Church. Finally, in 1957 the merger of these two Churches formed the United Church of Christ. So, the streams of four church bodies flowed together to form one larger, stronger church.
While each of these churches was unique in worship and governing style, their common faith commitment made it possible for them to unite as one.
Peace United Church of Christ was formed in 1969 by the merger of the Muddy Creek United Church of Christ, Swartzville, East Cocalico Township, and Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ, Adamstown. The church building was constructed on property donated to the Muddy Creek Church by John B. Harting, where for so many years the Muddy Creek Sunday School Picnic was hosted.
While Peace United Church of Christ itself is only 40 years old, we are celebrating 278 years of worship and service to our local communities and the world.
While it is good to look back and celebrate our history and heritage, we must always look to the needs of our present day and to the future as together we strive to serve God, and all of God’s people!
We invite you to explore this website in order to learn more about who we are and what we believe. And we extend to you an invitation to worship with us and celebrate God’s grace and mercy as we continue the journey of faith that God has set before us.
Our membership includes people who live in most of the communities that make up northern Lancaster and southern Berks Counties. Join us for fellowship and friendship, faith and worship!

BELIEFS
As members of Peace United Church of Christ we believe:
In Jesus Christ as the Son of God and our Savior,
That He died upon the cross so that we might have forgiveness of sin and life everlasting,
That as the Son of God, Jesus Christ is the head of the church and of our lives,
That the Bible is the word of God and we look to the word of God as our guide for life and faith,
We acknowledge as brothers and sisters in faith all who share this confession.
As members of Christ’s Church we:
Look for the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit to continue its creative and redemptive work in the world; and,
Affirm that it is the responsibility of every Christian, in every generation, to make this faith their own in sincerity of thought and honesty of worship.
“Following the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ, we believe that we are called to carry out His mission in the world today. Wherever there are people without the Gospel, wherever there are people in need, wherever there is injustice, strife, hatred and greed – there the Church of Christ is bound by its Lord to bear witness, to serve, to help, to reconcile, to rebuild. We belong to Christ and must follow where he leads.”
