Our Mission
Come As You Are, Engage In Faith
Come as you are – because we all start somewhere. And wherever you are on your faith journey, you are welcome here. We want you to feel comfortable. We tend to have a more relaxed culture than you might expect given our liturgical style of worship. On Sunday you may worship among suits and blue jeans. You’ll find we love the outdoors - from our splendid church garden to the fly-fishing ministry – many of our parishioners encounter the Holy Spirit in nature. We offer ministries for all ages & stages, from hands-on to contemplative, including a strong youth program, and we love to have fun together.
A strength of St John’s is our ability to respect differences and find common ground in Christ. In our church you will be cared for, according to Jesus’s example, no matter who you are. Whatever your perspective, your baggage, your orientation, your political affiliation, your race, your identity, your background, your abilities, your age, your socioeconomic status – you are invited into our extended church family. We are all created in the image of God. We believe everyone brings value as a unique reflection of God’s image. So please, come as you are.
Engage in Faith – because we are a “doing” church. We want you to come as you are, but not stop there. We don’t want you to sit on the sidelines. Engaging in faith means, getting to know each other on a deeper level, wrestling with the big questions together, feeding the hungry, caring for the community, celebrating God’s majesty through worship, and growing into the image of Christ by prayerfully following Jesus’s teachings throughout our week, not just on Sunday. Staying engaged isn’t always easy, but it’s our commitment to letting the Holy Spirit work through our community to make a better world.
Our church family is dynamic and vibrant. Just check out the many ways to engage in this week’s announcements. We each bring our unique perspectives, we engage with each other, with scripture and with the Holy Spirit, and we all grow together.
