Wesley McCarter

Dr. Wesley C. McCarter serves as Pastor of the Rural Hall Christian Church near Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Professor and Director of the Doctor of Ministry Program of Charlotte Theological Seminary in Charlotte, North Carolina. Pastor McCarter has served in ordained ministry since 2006 and on theological faculties since 2015. As a pastor-theologian, he is pleased to maintain active ministries in both the church and the academy. Written under the supervision of renown New Testament scholar, Dr. Douglas Moo, the title of his D.Min. dissertation is, “He Loved Them to the End: A Commentary on John 13-17.” His Ph.D. thesis, “Matthean Christology: The Mission of Christ and the Meaning of the Cross,” was written under the supervision of Matthean scholar, Prof. Francois Viljoen. The thesis was subsequently published by Parson’s Porch Books. Dr. McCarter has experience teaching courses on the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels, both onsite and online. A participant in the academic guild, he is a full member of the Evangelical Theological Society and formerly a full member of the Society of Biblical Literature, the Stone-Campbell Scholars Community, and the Evangelical Homiletics Society. Most importantly, Dr. McCarter is a family man. Happily married since 2007, Wesley and his lovely wife Bridget live in North Carolina and are raising two adorable daughters. The McCarter family is passionate about Christian ministry in the home, church, academy, and community. This has led them to found two educational groups, Highland Martial Arts & Fitness as well as Homeschool in the Hall. Prof. McCarter is currently a Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and teaches multiple classes per week. He enjoys spending time with his family, reading to his girls, collecting books, and eating fried rice.
