Have you ever walked into a church and felt, “Oh yeah, the Holy Spirit is alive and well here”? That’s what I felt walking into this little church. The people are friendly and welcoming. If you stroll in wearing diamond earrings and five-inch heels or more simply in your cleanest jeans and a shirt, it will be ok. A diverse age and race group lead heartfelt worship songs accompanied by guitars, keyboards, and drums. Everyone in the old church’s pews sings along using words projected at the front of the church and appear to really enjoy it. The pastor, Simon Geller, is a well-educated, x-cop who is strong enough to be humble, has a great ability to laugh at himself (and let you laugh along), who gets straight to the point. The sermons can be expository, (chewing up a single verse into understandable bites, or topical with Bible verses incorporated to support or explain the concepts shared and informative telling you about recent events where church attendees participated reaching out to others with kindness and Good News. And finally—Do you hate getting asked for money? —fear not you are safe here. But not entirely safe. You are at great risk of being inspired to give money freely when you hear the many ‘down to earth’ or creative ways this small church shows the love of Christ to others with the little bit of money they have—remarkable. Their service starts at the odd time of 10:10am. I’ll be going back—see you there.
