Solid, Bible-centered church. Lots of strong believers here who not only "talk the talk" but "walk the walk." One of the riches of this particular congregation involves the multi-generational element. A decent mix of young and old worship here. Plenty of good Bible study offerings outside of Sunday morning. Active youth groups, children's ministry, college ministry, women's ministry, men's ministry, small groups, etc.
"EP" as this church is commonly known, stands out with its generous outreach. The community events it hosts go all-out. The annual free clothing give-away contains mountains of gently used clothes to "shop", the women's Christmas dinner is stunningly decorated and with an array of volunteer "waiters", the Easter "eggstravaganza" packs in pony rides, games, moon bounce, face paints and tasty free lunch, the send-a-kid-to-camp puts up full tuition for a few dozen kids each year, so forth and so on. People enthusiastically volunteer to house guests in Winter Relief, to offer homework help each week in a local housing project, to pack shoeboxes with gifts at Christmas, an ESL outreach cropped up when people realized the need, a "Pop Up Pantry" popped up in COVID times and on and on. The generosity is genuine.
Like people, churches all have room to grow. EP has a heart and a solid base but doesn't yet reflect the financial and ethnic diversity of the early church or the Annapolis area at large. Lots of highly educated and economically successfully people worship here, and that reflects some of the surrounding community, but you'd be hard pressed (at time of writing) to find many blue-collar, poor, or uneducated among its members or to see the kind of ethnic diversity that makes up the community (or the body of Christ) at large. I don't think this stems from any intentional exclusion but rather from people tending to gravitate towards others of like background. Current leadership seems to genuinely want to attract a more diverse ethnic and socio-economic make-up, which is encouraging.
There is much to appreciate about EP. I hope that as it continues it will retain the solid Bible-centered foundation and generous spirit which have been a beautiful part of its essence.
