Why I love St. Michael's Episcopal Church

Having grown up conservative Protestant, attending an Episcopal church was a new leap for me. But for some reason, God led me here. Of course, the Lord know's what is best for me, and it was a good thing that I trusted Him. Because I found something at St. Michael's that I hadn't felt in a long time: peace. The chaos in my head quieted - I didn't have to worry about grasping for words that my heart wanted so badly to share with the Lord in prayer, because the words were already written in my prayer book. I didn't feel like I was letting the Lord down. Also, while others might find traditional worship boring, I found it comforting--peaceful. After all, I was sharing in a form of worship that had changed very little in hundreds, if not thousands, of years.
Also, I liked that I felt welcomed-- and more importantly, not judged. There was no expectation, no gossip, no prying ... just come. Just come as your are. All are welcomed. I love that. Jesus loved everyone, and so should we. The church's mission seems to reflect this:
"We exist to love and worship God, and to love everybody in his Name the way he loves us. Jesus calls us to do two things: love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and love our neighbors as ourselves. The whole of God's law, the whole of our lives, and the whole mission of God's people are centered on these two commandments."
The parishioners of St. Michael's are super nice, wonderful people, and very active -- they volunteer in the community, they volunteer at church, and they are fun to hang out with on a weekend. Many here are retired military, prior military, on active duty, or affiliated with the military -- husband, wives, parents or children are or were in. I imagine this is why there is such a strong sense of community at this church. And everyone is so generous.
As for the congregation as a whole, it is very diverse. All ages, from all over the world. (Might be the military influence here.) I also love that. The priest is wonderful as well.
So, a year or so later, I am now a confirmed Episcopalian. I came to the church looking for a place to worship, but found so much more. I am now a part of the prayer shawl ministry (I didn't even know how to knit when I came) as well as the website committee. I enjoy interacting with others online.
Come visit us. Look us up and check us out. I don't think you'll be disappointed. My name is Tiffany. If you visit, find me so we can meet!
May the good Lord bless you in all things to the glory of his Name.
