Current pastor and church leadership are actively involved in covering up the pastor’s sexual misconduct. This pattern of behavior mirrors his dismissal from a previous church for similar reasons. Requiring NDAs and settling claims are part of this cover-up, but NDAs have no place in a church setting. Predators and authority figures who abuse their power should be removed from their positions immediately and face consequences and restoration.
The use of NDAs prevents victims from healing properly by silencing them, isolating them from their once-supportive congregation, and preventing them from sharing their experiences with friends or family. NDAs perpetuate a toxic environment when they cover up a predator’s actions and allow the behavior to continue.
The pastor claims he didn’t know it was wrong to meet with women one-on-one and discuss sexual matters. However, this is what he did at his previous church, indicating awareness of the inappropriateness. He is still unwilling to take responsibility and is not forthcoming about the seriousness of the situation.
If someone were truly repentant, they would follow the example of previous pastors at this church who took time off, sought counseling, pastoral care, and restoration. Someone who is unaware of proper boundaries with women of the opposite sex that aren’t their spouse are not fit for church leadership. This is a great position of power and requires integrity and proper understanding of boundaries and the willingness to admit his behavior and sincerely seek help. Not demand NDA’s and silence victims.
