I am a 1st generation American from an immigrant family. I grew up without friends and without a sense of belonging to anything. My siblings hated me and called me names. My parents didn’t understand the culture and insulted my attempts to fit in. During my teen years America went to war against my parents’ home country. At school different groups would target me for hate crimes, vandalizing my house and threatening to beat me up on the way home from school. Many told me to ‘go back’ to where I came from. #NotPossible
At 19 I got married to escape the hate, thinking my husband and future children would love me. I endured 9 years of physical abuse before I concluded that life couldn’t be worse alone, so I walked away with 2 small kids, $300, and a heart full of pain. I was faced with a hurtful past and unknown future, all the while never belonging to anything. #Broken
Enter God. He helped me understand that I always belonged to Him, and that He only had good thoughts about me. He loves me more intensely than I could ever understand, and He wants the absolute best for me. He wants me to have friends and belong to something bigger than myself. #Hope
Enter The Promise Church. I’ve been able to heal here, I’ve learned my worth here, and I’ve found peace and friendship here. It’s been noted that the people at The Promise are so happy and connected to each other. That’s because The Promise isn’t a church; it’s a family. We care for each other like siblings should. We love and forgive each other like siblings should. And we collectively thank and worship our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, for shedding his blood to forgive our sins, as siblings should. #Blessed&Grateful
The Promise family is comprised of several different ethnic groups (I finally fit in)! We don’t all talk the same way. We don’t all eat the same food. We don’t all dress the same way. But we all share the same passion: (1) to love God, (2) to love ourselves, (3) and to love each other. I personally invite you to The Promise. I’m there every Sunday and would be happy to sit with you and introduce you to all my friends. Just tell the usher at the door that Aimee invited you. They will help you find me. And you will finally fit it. #Home
